The racism of black history month, v. 2.0, from white history month. Options

Okay, so I am not trying to be racist or anything, but who here agrees with me that the black people are getting way more recognition than the whites?

Now we have black history month, black activists month, and negro colleges/college funds? This is just not fair.

Everyone believes that if we have a white history month then we will be racist? We aren't. Blacks are getting everything nowadays and if the white people try to put say into anything, it gets shoved back in our face as a racist comment.

I love black history and everything, but I have pride in being white and we get no recognition whatsoever? Does anyone agree with me..

And please don't say I am being racist. I live in the South for God's sake.

things to keep in mind whilest you debate:

• there is an asain history month. and a month for whatever else you can think of, except penguins of course. penguins are discriminated against for sure.
• every month is not white history month. check out the previous thread if you want to argue- pretend you posted, and read the multitudes of responses to whenever that was posted- all 14 times.
• read the thread before posting, please. if you can't, at least read the last few pages to get a general sense of what's being argued and what's been brought up.

Alot of people are talking about predjudice and levels of discrimination but no one has really built an argument yet to justify a Black History Month using such pretense. People have been bringing up the discrimination of other minorities and implying these offenses as pretense to a "X History Month" or to discredit that argument for a "Black History Month."

Why does past discrimination justify a "History Month?"
What practical use do we have for such a "History Month?"
When can such a month be exhausted?
In an age of equality, at least within federal law, why do we need such a month?
And, at that point, what kind of message do you think is being sent by holding onto such a month?

[Note: Slavery is bad. We all know that. Racism is bad. We all know that. A 'History Month' is something we don't need to remind us. And, those who are racist, and down with slavery, aren't going to be convinced by a 'History Month.' If anything, this will just fuel their hatred.]

Alright. Today, institunionalized racism, at least the kind we have seen in the past, does not exist. So, why do the offenses of the past justify the recognition of a Black History Month, I mean... we have a history class. Why do we need to have a month for learning, specifically, about black history? And why is it such a powder puff history lesson?!

If anything, I would say Black History Month has exhausted its usefullness. We learn about blacks during normal history class. This was not exactly true when the month was created, but it is true today. Carter Woodson, the African-American historian who founded Black History Month, wanted to see the month eliminated once blacks were recognized in regular history classes.

Morgan Freeman might have said it best when he said, "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."
