Okay, so I am not trying to be racist or anything, but who here agrees with me that the black people are getting way more recognition than the whites?

Now we have black history month, black activists month, and negro colleges/college funds? This is just not fair.

Everyone believes that if we have a white history month then we will be racist? We aren't. Blacks are getting everything nowadays and if the white people try to put say into anything, it gets shoved back in our face as a racist comment.

I love black history and everything, but I have pride in being white and we get no recognition whatsoever? Does anyone agree with me..

And please don't say I am being racist. I live in the South for God's sake.

I agree.

I feel that the American people are over-compensatory towards African-Americans.

Yes, they have been mistreated in the past, and it was a terrible thing. However, while people still hold an attitude of 'let's make everything better', true equality cannot be achieved

If there were a White History month, all the minorities would probably get huffy.

Yeah, maybe we just shouldn't have any holidays celebrating race or gender.

of course...

if someone when around saying "white pride" they'd be viewed as a racist.

likewise, if someone said 'asian pride' or 'black pride' not many people would care.

a lot of this compensation for minorities has gone too far.

who wants to ressurect the affirmative action debate?

I disagree. Those days were only here because they contributed a lot to america. Whites weren't the slaves now were they?

okay, take a gander in your hostory book. all it is is white people. the only thing you read about black people is slavery and thomas crowe laws. the only time you read about asia is when whitey bombed them in WWII and again in vietnam. every month is white history month.

eventually, though, cultural plauralism will probably work out, and their will be no need for any history month of any kind.

why is there need now?

history months will only encourage the idea that race determins something.

benifits to one race will encourage the idea that that race is inferior and thus needs help.

Did you guys know, that in places like Chicago, there is actually 'Reverse Racism'.

Yup, all the black people go against the whites and stuff. My friend's mom had a brick thrown at her from a black person, that is how bad it can be.

Exactly what I was going to say.

LMAO @ "white people get no recognition whatsoever". Are you serious?

And the reason there are negro college funds is to help black people into college since the majority of people who live in poverty in this country are black folks and some do need the money.

There is affirmative action because there is an underrepresentation of minorities including women in the workplace.

black people were the slaves, its true, but it took a white man to free them (LIncoln).

the crux of the arguement is, if black people get a special recogniton of their racial history and cullture, why don't white people deserve the same? If a black man says hes proud to be black, alls well and good, but if a white man says he's proud to be white, its all "kkk alert". how is that equality that the minorities strive for?

I completely agree with that.

I understand now about your history book comments. But I kind of would like to change the subject to why black people get more freedom to talk about different races than white people can. It just..doesn't click with me.

well the black history month...was more because of slaves and remembering everything. on the moderate, most black people went through a lot more then white people. yeah i guess it is unfar, how if i was just born black i could celebrate that month, but since i'm white i can't? my ancestors wern't even around during slavery. they came from sweden. but so many black people did go thorugh a lot..

anyway i suppose some black people are actually a little racist to me, just because i am white. they dont even know what my ancestors did...for all they know, they could have helped with the underground railroad or soemthing...actually once again they lived in sweden. but i think some people are a bit to judgemental just for being white..well thats my rant.

Oh yeah..I forgot to add something that I learned.

I live in Mississippi, so we learn a lot about the whole slavery deal. Well everybody thinks that we are all bad and crap because our ancestors owned slaves and treated them poorly. That is NOT true.

The only people that owned slaves were rich. Therefore, only 10% of the south owned slaves. That isn't a lot. But if that isn't enough for you, only 3% treated their slaves poorly. The other 7% treated them nicely, like a family member.

And before we go off on southern people, I would like to add that Northern people owned slaves also. They might have owned less slaves, yes, thats true, but about 90% of the northern people that owned slaves treated them poorly also.

very true. maybe we should just have 'mis-treated slave month'

its because america has an over-compensatory attitude towards African-Americans, and so everyone is afraid to call them on it, mbecause they've suffered in the past. However, white people have been the abuseres in the past, so its ok to remember that and judge them... warped logic

what people need to remember is that racism doesn't just refer to white people hating blacks. it can be abything from blacks hating whites, to whites hating hispanics, to hipanics hating asians.

I remember, there was a white-only scholarship, and there was a big fuss over it. I was laughing, because on the PSAT, there's a little box that you can fill in if you are african-american and want to receive scholarships.

president Lyndon B johnson said this:

QUOTE
"Freedom is not enough. You do not wipe
away the scars of centuries. You do not
take a man who for years has been hobbled
by chains, liberate him, bring him to the
starting line of a race saying, 'You are free to
compete with all the others', and still justly
believe you have been completely fair.
Thus it is not enough to open the
gates of opportunity."

and it has become the ralling cry for those who support affirmative action.

however:

you do not take a man who for years has been hobbled by chains, liberate him, bring him to the starting line of a race saying, ' you are free to compete with all the others', and beliving that he is inferior, move him up till he is next to the finish line and tell the others 'now he is equal to you' and belive you have been completely fair.

and yet that is what we have done, with our affirmative action, and our black history month, and all our racist institutions designed to 'level the playing ground'
