The Task
Create a logo for you as if you were CEO Marketing Director (?) of your company.

Design Elements:
A logo is something that is in print world wide and has to be universal. It's on everything from letterheads to back of notecards. Your logo must have functionality, and duality. It has to be able to be placed ANYWHERE on ANYTHING COMPUTER-RELATED.

Things you might want to do:

->Decide on a company name. Make it unique and flashy, but not GAUDY. Okay? Flashy as in unique and one-of-a-kind.
->Decide on color scheme. Colors are important! Not everything in the world is black and white. I mean, come on, we do have a RAINBOW!
->The internet is the greatest resource. Notice company logos and how SIMPLISTIC they are. Nike is just a check mark, for god's sake. Mcdonald's? Totally just a yellow M. Do RESEARCH before you make something final!

Brief Lesson :

Functionality:
It needs to be universal. The most common example I can think of as I am typing this up at 1:00 in the morning is Nike and the checkmark. It is on the tv, shoes, letters, shoeboxes. It's EVERYTHING. ANd it looks the same. But none of your logos are going on shoes. Unless..well. Yeah. You catch the drift.

It needs to be something that is NOT COMPLEX. Simplicity is elegance. Yes, complex layouts are hot but they can tend to look cluttered. Don't make it look cluttered. Also, make sure that if say, you didn't have access to a color printer in time and all you had is black and white, make sure there is enough contrast between everything. It needs to be universal and serve plenty of duality.

Obnoxious:
Don't make it big and obnoxious. Yes, you want something that'll catch peoples eye and go "Oh wow, what's this?" but come on. Use yo' common sense, bro!

Examples:
Simple logos

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/9515816/
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29383958/
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/11767187/

Text logos:
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25224151/

Requirements:

Logo needs to be NO BIGGER than 400 x 400 (in terms of pixels) with a RESOLUTION OF 72
Logo needs to be submitted in COLOR & BLACK/WHITE
YOU WILL BE SUBMITTING TWO VERSIONS OF YOUR LOGO.

WHEN SUBMITTING YOUR LOGO:
SEND IT TO MONA (LISA) with DESIGN as the subject. Okay?

Deadline as of now: Sunday March 18, 2007.

Good luck guys. _smile.gif

Erm, CEO's don't make logos. whistling.gif

Okay, that was very very stupid of me to point out, but I'd like to say that everything else looks terrific. I particularly found the "Functionality" and "Obnoxious" parts amusing.

Good luck, everyone! Can't wait to see the results. (:

No, this is just to see how creative and random you can be. :)

No deadline as of yet. People tend to break deadlines. whistling.gif Since there are many, many rookies, at least two weeks, I guess?

I looove the theme [even though I'm not in the comp.] but won't it be unfair to judge logos since they're each going to represent different companies? I guess picking a company and representing it to one's best ability is important, but it's just a huge variable.

What's going to be judged upon is if you can come up with a versatile logo. Something random and creative, but also useable. I'm confused as to how it would matter if there are going to be different companies.

It's basically to see how many rookie-star pairs we'll have unless stars would like to take on more than one rookie, though that may be too much work.

Oh poo. Details. laugh.gif Lets say you're self employed. You can be the CEO & President & Vice President & Even the employee!

And those parts were only funny because I typed them at one in the morning a couple of days ago..and..I like to write the same sentence at least 4 times just in different ways each time. It's a speciality of mine.

i don't know if it really makes sense to have a size limit..

in webmastering it worked out better to have various sizes all around.

just my little point to add. *goes back into sick oblivion*

Dear God, I didn't realize truly how small that is. Okay. We'll make the maximum size of...400px x 400px.

MAX SIZE. It can be smaller too. But keep the res 72.

Yeah, I'm going to try and finish mine up soon too... I have a feeling that there won't be enough people entering their logos for us to have to worry abotu having competition... xD

Quick question: Would grayscale and black and white be two different things here? As in, "black and white" being completely black and white?

Nooo. I technically meant greyscale. But whatever. It's all good.

If you have it in color, then just desaturate it. :D

I wish I knew that... I actually makes me kind of angery because I would have made a much more compicated logo if I known. B/W and Greyscale are two totally different things. I really don't want to rain on anyones parade, but if you state rules in a competition I don't want to loose just because I strictly obeyed them.

I'm excited to see the entries..

And Josh, I don't think you're going to lose because your image is b&w rather than greyscale, this is just to weed out some rookie applicants because we have more rookies than stars (and this just a prelim, as the title states).

Yeah, no problem. I guess I just want to compete. If my entrey is good enough for me to be in the competition then I honestly don't mind. I guess I just don't want to be ruled out because I strictly followed the rules. If it doesn't effect my entrance into the competition I really don't mind. wink.gif
