We have every console, we need a thread about the best way to play games, da pee cee.

Use this thread to discuss the best (and maybe worst) games for da pee cee.

Ask of your computer can run Crysis! Ask if your computer can run Half Life 2! Ask if your computer can run GTA4!

Discuss gaming builds, find out what GPU to buy, find out if your new processor sucks, get told that you can't stick a Core 2 Duo in an AM2+ board!

Find out what we think of the latest and greatest games for da pee cee!

It's an issue with nVidia cards.

Look for the Graphics Rules.sgr file in C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2/Seasons/TSData/Res/Config/Graphics Rules.sgr

Open "Graphics Rules.sgr" in notepad.

Look for "option ScreenModeResolution" and you will see settings for Low, Medium, and High. Set all the resolution settings to 1680 x 1050

Seasons before tsdata

Copy paste file:///C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2/Seasons/TSData/Res/Config/ into your browser

If you get an error, then something is missing, or I typed the path wrong.

uintProp maxResHeight 600
uintProp defaultResWidth 800
uintProp defaultResHeight 600

setting $MediumButDefaultLow
uintProp maxResWidth 1280
uintProp maxResHeight 1024
uintProp defaultResWidth 800
uintProp defaultResHeight 600

setting $Medium
uintProp maxResWidth 1280
uintProp maxResHeight 1024
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768

setting $High
uintProp maxResWidth 1600
uintProp maxResHeight 1200

Joseph, the answer would be Half Life 2, because of the extreme amount of customization allowed on the source engine. Games like Zombie Panic: Source, Garry's Mod, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Insurgency, Counter Strike: Source, etc. would have never been created if there was no Half Life 2.

CODE

option ScreenModeResolution
setting $Low
uintProp maxResWidth 1680
uintProp maxResHeight 1050
uintProp defaultResWidth 1680
uintProp defaultResHeight 1050

setting $MediumButDefaultLow
uintProp maxResWidth 1680
uintProp maxResHeight 1050
uintProp defaultResWidth 1680
uintProp defaultResHeight 1050

setting $Medium
uintProp maxResWidth 1680
uintProp maxResHeight 1050
uintProp defaultResWidth 1680
uintProp defaultResHeight 1050

setting $High
uintProp maxResWidth 1680
uintProp maxResHeight 1050
uintProp defaultResWidth 1680
uintProp defaultResHeight 1050

This should work.

Because this is the PC gaming topic, not the 360 topic.

What OS is it running? If it's vista, you don't have a gaming rig at all, but running XP that thing would rape just about everything.

I have XP in my machine. I would only need more RAM if I had Vista. Vista really doesn't bog down the processor or video card to much. Anyway, what really defines a computer as a gaming rig anyway? According to ATI I have a gaming card:

QUOTE
Enthusiast
  • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4870 Graphics
  • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4860 Graphics
  • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4850 Graphics
  • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4830 Graphics
Performance
  • ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4600 Series Graphics
Mainstream
  • TI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4500 Series Graphics
Value
  1. ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4300 Series Graphics

According to Corsair I have a gaming power supply:
QUOTE
The Corsair HX620W/HX520W power supply is versatile and robust. Utilizing superior triple +12V power rails and a whisper quiet double ball-bearing 120mm fan, the HX620W/HX520W is ready for today’s most power hungry components.

I have a fast HDD, I have a fast CPU, and I have enough RAM. I can play crisis on high without a blip. I have a gaming rig. It's just not overkill. A.k.a. I didn't waste my money.

CPU is moderately fast. My old Acer laptop had one of those, and couldn't run shit. Although I'm sure integrated graphics was the major hindrance there.

fff.

This kind of shit makes me wish I waited a few months to get my new computer. It was top of the line everything about six months ago when I got it, and then by February so much could easily beat it. GTX 295s, i7s, two terabytes of hard drive space.

i dont know how you managed to slap that i7 on that 775 mobo(ep45-ud3r).
i7 does not support your board. you'd need a 1366 mobo and ddr3.

My god, looking at the specs of your machines just makes me think, "What's the point". Next year I'll be able to buy a card as powerful than the 295 for 1/4th the price. Why spend so much money on a computer. There isn't a single game on the market that requires those kind of specifications... meh, whatever floats your boat.

I bumped this topic due to the 5870. You didn't even have to wait a whole year.

I'm pretty sick of working on 10 year old computers and trying to make them fast/usable. But I'm not gonna waste my money, cause I'm a jew. Hopefully after christmas I'll have enough money to build something cheap, 2.8ghz dual core, 2/4gb ddr 800 ram, a compatible mobo and I have no clue about anything when it comes to video cards. I'll just do some research. Figured that should be able to play crysis. I have a case, optical drive, hard drive, mouse, keyboard, right now, but they are all reallly sucky, but it can work for a little while.

Who am I kidding, I'm a jew, I hate spending money. I had 2k in the bank till I blew a bunch on this mac, which I am still having buyers remorse over.

Also, I have a computer, that has some sort of video card, that I think is pretty good. I'll find out what it is and ask you if it's any good.

That's a super 1337 gayming card. You can swap it out for a $50 4650 and still play Crysis with decent FPS.

Also, I'm almost willing to bet that it's a Radeon 9200. It's alright for most things, but pretty shit these days.

Don't get your hopes up. I think it may be a HD<4 numbers>. Something like that.

9550 is a good bit better, but still not that great.

Also for f*ck's sake install your drivers

On linux? When you update drivers, does it commit it to the hardware, or will I have to do it again, if I reformat or something? I'm sure I already know the answer but I just figured I'd ask. Last time I tried installing the drivers, I failed.

No it's handled by the kernel. which links directly with the hardware.
