I always have a block. And can't think of anything to design.

Hence why i haven't submitted in a while.

It'd be interesting to know! =]

I havent had any good ideas in a long time
but ive noticed that when i dont have anything planned to do and just start randomly making something on photoshop It turns out better than the planned graphics.

Like my Gemma ward one. Completely just put things together out of boredom and it came out better than most of my planned graphics

I write everything down. Each day I might come up with a few fresh ideas spontaneously, and I'd write them all down on the spot so I wouldn't forget.

Eventually, if you keep all you notes, you have a nice list of ideas to choose from.

Also, just looking at other people's work can be inspiring.

I don't know why, but I get a lot of inspiration from commercials for certain channels. The design of Bravo's commercials really fascinate me, and I think I've made a couple things based on some ones from Fuse.

Sometimes just by looking at the designs here I get inspired. Or if I find a great picture online, tons of ideas come to mind. There are a lot of ways I get inspired but I'd say those are the top 2.

I usually get my inspiration from lyrics from songs. Usually when I'm on the computer I have my ipod in one ear, so if I hear something profound I draw from that.

I also get my inspiration from photographs from my favorite photographers, and also Fashion editorials.

Listen to music, and write ideas down like Arjuna said. Most of the time I try to make things that other people won't like, but that's just me.

Yup, music inspires me a lot. Plug in the speakers and let my ipod shuffle. Or browsing through deviantart gets me inspired, and kind of sad though, since there are such awesome people there :(

Music is a great help, i listen to it a lot when I'm designing. I get ideas for layouts from other people, i see a good layout and it inspires me to try out new things.

Don't try to force yourself make something. Do it when you feel like it. I don't know if you keep a blog, but if you do, the concept is quite similar

I get inspired by fanfiction, or by pretty images that make me itch to turn them into a layout or avatars. But often I'm too lazy to follow through. *sigh*

Hrmmm. I just look at other graphics. I don't like copy them or anything, but if it reminds me of something I should do/make, I'll put it down on paper.

And wow at how so many people get inspiration from like music, and books, and stuff. I don't know how you guys inspiration from that :T I don't get anything from it D:

In addition some mentioned above...

I don't wait for an epiphany or inspiration to hit; I simply start. Mistakes force me to venture off-path, and the effort eventually gives way to progress, and progress, motivation.

So, experimentation. I suggest starting out rough and seeing what happens. You can do it. _smile.gif

My inspiration comes from a variety of sources. Usually it's whatever I'm into at the moment (tv shows, music, books, etc). Right now, I'm so tied up with work, school, parenting and such that I simply don't have the time to be "inspired." lol

how come its like after every two layouts I make, I get designers bloc for like a year (sarcastically speaking) I want to make a layout but have been contemplating on how to design it for the last 2 months, so what do you other people do that makes you so creative, like what are some things you heavily depend on for layout making, I depend heavily on music, what about others? is it a Tv show? lol

What are some things that you look into for inspiration? What attracts you to these sites? What do you need help learning how to use in a program, such as Photoshop?

Same goes for Photographers. I basically want to know what the internet lacks in providing help for artists.

Well the thing is, people look to the internet too much. They need to figure things out themselves and practice. But i know that not the answer you want. ahah.

Well im just always looking for new design ideas. Even if their bad, its great to see soemthing that hasn't been done before.

If I need inspiration for something, I'll listen to music or something. That usually really helps me.

I think trying things out and getting familiar with the program is pretty much the best thing you could do to improve yourself. At least, that's how I learned to use Photoshop. Just trying things and messing around. Trial and error, and mimicking things that others have made, just obviously not putting it up anywhere..

Practice, practice, like jcp said (imo).

I get my inspirations from visual presentations. Movies, shows, etc. helps me see a whole different side of the picture. The whole picture could be manipulated to something different.

Anything and everything. I'll be reading a book and get inspiration everytime I put it down. I emberse myself in the world and try to create from it.
Clouds and clothes are really cool to get inspiration from too.
Thinking about something OTHER than what you need/want to design is always a jump starter. Like when I had to do gay things for my studio art class, I'd just do my math homework first and I was able to think of something. It helps my sisters husband, he's an artist, when he has a weird commission that he doesn't relate to he'll research the topic and then go play tennis or some other sport when he's cleaning up after ward he gets inspiration.
Artists are odd.
