Make this thread helpful for the mods.

Mods are members, also. So member bashing is not allowed, as always. Don't make it a personal vendetta, please. Keep the bashing at 0%, please.

Any moderator has the right to close and unpin this thread at the signs of bashing, pointlessness, and/or any other guideline breaker.

I do hope this works out. I want to stress that this is not the place for personal attacks. If you really have to, keep it in the PM system between you and the mod. This thread is here to help mods work better with members.

Please do not make this thread into a full scale discussion. Its main purpose is for members to evaluate moderator performance. If your question/concern has been answer, cease to post here until you have another concern. Thank you.

So...your thoughts?

Honestly,it's been weird from a staff member point of view. At least it's been weird for me. Pretty much anything goes (as far as spam is concerned) in the VIP Lounge (there are VIP guidelines that go more into depth about that) but The Lounge is generally the area that people tend to spam the most in. Part of me thinks that we should just get rid of the VIP Lounge, especially since people are spamming in The Lounge anyway. That way only advertising, porn (>PG13 content), bash threads, things of that sort would be moderated. There's just no reason to have two free for all areas. It seems superfluous. I've seen sort of a true "Random" area work on other forums and I'm wondering if something like that would work here. There are already specific Community Center areas that people need to be specific in. Why not let people be completely random in The Lounge?
Actually, we use the VIP Lounge to talk about people behind their back. It should stay.

lul

I thought the lounge was just for topics that didn't really fit into any of the other subforum topics. The VIP lounge was supposed to be something exclusive to official members/designers/promoters...

Not many people post in the VIP Lounge. There are times when it's active and then the activity just kinda dies. Like I said before, I was under the impression that the Lounge is generally not modded. And so far that's the way that it has been.

Not if your name is James. Let's count how many topics he's moved the the VIP Lounge.

then i'm not in favor of it.

we take away our vip lounge privileges and get basically the same lounge we have now...that sounds like a rip off in the end. we don't really get anything, we just get something taken away.

I was under the impression that the Lounge is generally not modded.

What? Is there some miscommunication on what the rules are? Of course the lounge is modded. It's always been modded. Moderators move and close topics in the lounge occasionally, if not often. Moderators edit out threads, ask people to stay on topic, etc. And even when all the drama happened, moderators went around modding, or at least the active ones did. Go to anonymous shoutouts and once in a while you'll see a moderator bitching complaining about "staying on topic" and "keep it anonymous" or something.

Where did that impression come from? Just wondering. Maybe you have this confused with the VIP lounge?

As for activity, so what? VIP lounge is only viewable to official members/promoters/designers, so of course it's not going to get as much activity. Anime forums barely gets any activity anyways, especially since some moderators don't even bother to check certain subforums.

That's fine. Like I said, it was an idea. It's not like I mind you guys having the VIP Lounge and I wasn't trying to take something away, I was trying to make posting in the Lounge easier. So if you guys feel that it's fine the way it is, that's totally cool. =)

Well, I meant generally. Meaning that I don't think mods should be as tight with the rules in the Lounge as they are in the other forums. And usually that's the way it works. Off topic topics usually don't get closed in the Lounge, whereas in other forums they would. If a person who makes a topic makes it for a specific reason and a bunch of people are getting off topic then a mod should step in and remind the people who have posted to get back on topic. It's unfair to person who has made the topic to turn the discussion to something else. If someone posts something that is against the rules, then of course something is going to be done about it.

I don't think that the VIP Lounge should be taken away. I do think that there needs to be some new ideas introduced to the VIP lounge to keep it interesting and make it more different than the regular Lounge. The VIP Lounge is a privilage, and obiviously if people abuse it thye are going to lose it. So it's really up to them.

^ That is because the lounge is for topics that don't really fit within other said categories (subforums), which is why they are left in the lounge. But usually threads have to promote some kind of discussion, not just blatant spam, even if the thread starts out with spam -- it would probably get closed. There are exceptions, i.e "what are you doing this weekend?" "anonymous shoutouts" etc. Why do you think topics like "OMG HAI YANLIN!" get closed or maybe even moved to VIP Lounge.

Oh and FYI, topics that are considered "off-topic" in that they don't beloing in a certain forum, should be moved to a different subforum, not closed. Same goes for duplicate topics -- Merge button is your friend.

^I agree with the merging topics thing. I mean to just delete a topic for no good reason, is just silly in my opinion.

yea, but fortunately that won't be happening anymore since Trish isn't on staff.

Although i did catch this Natalie/Manny chick deleting a thread she made in VIP after I said "oh ew, I hope you're not talking about yrrnotelectrikk (absinthe)". HAHAHHAHAH rofl1.gif

Oh, I wish I had the power to make a topic, then quickly delete it hoping no one would see it. :D

My oh my. Where to begin? ***long winded post warning***

I'll start with Natalia, since she's been getting the majority of recent feedback. A couple of things are happening that concern me. While I think that people are being a tad hard on her (and quite mean at times) however, I do agree that her responses could have been handled differently and that perhaps the manner in which she presents herself could be improved upon.

Something that I tried to emphasize during interviews is that when you're a mod, you're on instant scrutiny. Sometimes the criticism is warranted (very warranted at times), sometimes people tend to target an individual and nitpick , sometimes it's a combination of both. The thing is, as a staff member you have to develop thick skin and learn to deal with feedback. Even if you do not agree with the feedback you are given, we're (staff) are here to help the Community and as such, you need to respond to them with a certain level of dignity and respect.

Spamming and The Lounge. The Lounge is supposed to be a random area but that doesn't mean it's a big spam free for all. The VIP Lounge is there for that sort of thing. Jusun wanted The Lounge to be more lenient than other areas of the Community Center so that people feel comfortable and to create a free enough environment so that people can chill and have fun.

Well it depends on what the topic is about. If it's just someone's name as a topic title and "hi" written inside, it probably won't go anywhere anyway.

Perhaps I am a slacker mod than, because I don't close topics that off topic. I will move them if I see that they fit better in a different forum. Obviously, if there are two of the exact same threads that a person has made there is only need for one.

Staff has a pretty strict rule about deleting topics, so if they are closed at least people can still see them mellow.gif

If we get rid of the VIP lounge, anybody that is allowed to post in there should get some sort of compensation.

I like how I got shit because the staff thought that kind of thing was all I'd do as a mod. a) that's bullshit, and b) that shit needs to be done and I'm f**king good at it. Oh, but damn, I am way too full of myself! How dare I point out that I'm good at modding. I am such a bitch. What a good plan to hire stupid people over me, just because OMG I didn't take my interview seriously enough and stated the FACT that I am actually useful. f**k that shit. Dumbasses FTW!

eh, I think "off-topic" (in terms of Lounge description) means things that don't exactly fit into subforums. imo, true chatty spam should be in the VIP. I don't have a problem with a couple "off-topic" posts in an off-topic thread, just that there is a line between blatant spam and the occasional conversation tangent.
EDIT. 3000 :)
