HOSTING SITE REVIEWS
great list, this a valuable resource. that being said, I'd like to add a few things... Angelfire and Geocities cracking down on mp3 hosting. Be careful if u use one of those to host your mp3s. .wavs and .wmas are fine, I've hosted both on my Angelfire account and not had any problems. Geocities can be kinda hostile and will shut your site down if they find out you have mp3s on it...that's what I've heard anyway, I've never hosted audio files there... Ripway Be careful of your bandwidth...they monitor it very closely and your files will not work if you've exceeded your limit....regardless of format... Freewebtown offers a lot of space, but server availability is kinda sketchy... that's all for now. [EDITD BY SWEETXSIMPLICITY] Strike 9 They don't give you a lot of space, I could only upload one MP3 on my account, after that, I reached my maximum storage capacity. >< MyFileStash I've been using it recently, and I think it's pretty good, but you can upload a lot of music, maybe about eight music files, but beware of the overusage of bandwidth. =x Soundclick I don't think you can upload songs by other artists other than you on that site, I think soundclick is for like if you have a band or something. QUOTE Can I upload a song with samples or a master recording that I do not own? SoundClick does not permit copyrighted audio samples to be uploaded without prior written permission from the copyright holder(s). If you are uploading a remix of another artist's recording, you must obtain prior written permission from both the owner of the original recording and the owner of the underlying musical composition. Tracks determined by SoundClick to be "pirated" recordings will be deleted immediately and the artist page will be subject to permanent deletion. [EDITED BY MISSMATA] FreeHomePages.com I personally use this site and I love it. I can generally only host about 8-10 songs before reaching the hosting limit, but I usually host about five at a time. I recommend this for those who only want to host a few songs at a time. [EDITED BY LIGHTNER] Geocities will hold more songs, and take less bandwidth and stuff if it is put into ram. For homepagez they supervised my account very closely and after i upload 4 songs in a matter of 1 week they shut me down. So I am not sure exactly why they did so. www.free-webspace.biz allows 255mb space, unlimited bandwidth, 950kb is the maximum size of mp3 I was able to upload, I recommend changing format to wmvs. [EDITED BY SPIRITEDFREAK] Blogupload - I recommend this for .wmas. It's really good except it'll hold about 4 songs? pretty good if you ask me.[/font][/size] |

I'm not sure if they allow remote linking, though. |

homepagez.com no longer accepts wmv's or mp3's. When I uploaded an mp3, the page was not displayed. When I uploaded a WMV the file did not show up.

You shouldn't be uploading things of that size. 1o MB is even big for a video upload. Reduce the bitrate of your video + it's actual height and width. It'll make the video choppy, but it'll minimize lag time from loading. Which is better than great video quality on the internet.

Has anyone tried out http://www.ourmedia.org/ - that site claims to be specifically for mp3s and videos... of course, you need to _own_ the rights to the material being uploaded.
But that's true for any online sites. |

To avoid having your Angelfire account being closed, before uploading your audio file and hotlinking to your MySpace -- or whatever. Edit the index.html file. Just change a few things and add "Page underconstruction!!" and they will leave you alone. Since I don't want to violate any tos' for any of my paid hosts -- I use Angelfire (multiple accounts) for my blogs and MySpace account. Just something to take into consideration. |
