This tutorial will teach you how to create a screenshot of any web page or capture any screen event. Step by step instructions are given for Photoshop, but you could also use this tutorial with Corel PhotoPaint or Paint Shop Pro or even MS Paint.

1. Open the web page in the web browser. On Windows, press the Print Screen or Prnt Scrn key on your keyboard, found at the upper right of the keyboard. Betcha didn't ever notice this key before! This key will capture the entire screen. If your monitor resolution is set to 640x480, that's the size of the screen capture. If your monitor resolution is set to 600x800, that will be the size of the screen capture, etc.

To capture only the active window, press Alt + Print Screen.

On Mac OS X:

On Mac OS X, there are a number of ways to capture the screen:

Pressing Command+Shift+3 will capture the whole screen.

Pressing Command+Shift+4 will bring up a "target cursor" that will allow you to drag a box to select a portion of the screen.

Pressing Command+Shift+4, then hitting the Spacebar, will bring up a camera icon that allows you to capture a screen element, such as the menubar, a window, or the Doc.
Note: The Command key is the key immediately next to the spacebar that has a picture of the Apple logo and a little "propeller"-type icon on it.

The screenshot will be saved as a file on your desktop. On Mac OS X 10.0 to 10.3, it will be saved as a PDF; on Mac OS X 10.4, it will be saved as a PNG. Both files can be opened and edited in the Preview application.
On Mac OS 7.0-9.2:

Pressing Command+Shift+3 to take a picture of the screen.

The screen capture will be saved as a PICT file on the root of your hard drive. Double-click your hard drive icon. You will see a new PICT file named PictureX, where "X" is a sequential number.

This file can be opened and edited with most graphics programs.
2. Next, open up your paint program - you can use virtually any paint program, including Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Corel PhotoPaint, or even Microsoft's Paint, usually installed on Windows in the Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint.

3. In the paint program, select File/New, then Edit/Paste. Pretty simple, right? Your screen capture is now ready to be cropped or scaled. opposite direction.
