Outlining Tutorial
Software: Photoshop 7.0
Thought up by: ME! the one and only Maryland!
Level: beginner
note* most of the pictures are thumbed, so... cliky cliky lol

1. First find a picture that you want to outline
2. Make a new layer on top of the “background layer”

3. Experienced people will use the pen tool because it makes your outlines less choppy, but people like me who don’t know how to use it can do it my way

- click the “brush tool“ button
-set the foreground color to black
- make sure your on “layer 1”
- start outlining your picture by clicking anywhere on the picture. It is a lot harder to draw a continuous line where you don’t lift up the pencil. So instead simply click on your starting point, then hold down shift, and then click wherever you want your next point to be. This way your line will always be connected and your lines will be straight, and not shaky

4.Outline as much as you can/want
[note* don’t try to outline every single detail, it’ll look to cluttered]
[note* feel free to change the size of the brush at any time, for smaller, more detailed areas, use a smaller brush…]

5. If you want to make a part of your picture darker/stand out more, feel free to color that part in. For example I colored the pant leg in very lightly, the puma sign, and I colored in the checkers on her shoelaces.

6. Once you’re satisfied with your outline, add a new layer in between the background layer, and “layer 1”
7. Select either the “gradient tool”, or the “fill tool” and totally fill in the whole layer

8. Select “layer 1” again, and set the blending style to “overlay”

9.if you find that your outline is too light, you can always make a copy of “layer 1.” That should make the outline darker, and more visible. If that makes it too dark, try changing the opacity of the “Layer 1 Copy”

If you are comfortable at using the pen tool go ahead and use it, it will make your lines a lot smoother. if ever you outline too much, or want to make a line less visible, feel from to use the eraser tool

and juss have fun i guess, and always be creative lol =) hope this tutorial helped :hehe:

Pretty cool; it's like the pen tool without curves and skipping the stroke path part. XD
