okay so i found this tutorial on a website and thought i'd post it here for easier access. i didn't make this tutorial but i used it and it turns out nicely. this tutorial is from [url=http://peachie.nu]http://peachie.nu[/url] so there's the credit.
Rainbow Images
1. Open up your image.
2. If you just want to make a button or other graphic using brushes, then first open a new file. Change the background to black and then use your brushes in white. I suggest using different opacities with the brushes, it might make it look better. Here's an example:
3. Now make a new layer by going to LAYER> NEW> LAYER at the top of the screen.
4. Click on the Gradient Tool in the Tool Box
. If you can't find it, hold down on the Paint Bucket Tool
and you should find it.
5. At the top of the screen, double click the gradient editor
6. Now choose your colors by clicking on the little boxes underneath the color bar.
7. Make sure the opacity is set at 100%. Click on the boxes above the color bar.
8. Click "OK".
9. Drag it over the image. You can do it straight down or however you want it. TIP: If you hold SHIFT, you can make the gradient go in a perfectly straight line.
10. In the Layer Toolbox, change that layer to "COLOR". You can see it in this picture:
