With this tutorial I'm going to show you how to create a really neat effects as shown below:

1) Create a new document: File >> New. Use any square canvas size you wish on a transparent background. I used 300x300px.

2) Press 'D' on your keyboard to reset foreground and background colors to black and white. Now render some clouds: Filter >> Render Clouds. You should have something like the following:

3) Apply the Color Halftone filter: Filter >> Pixelate >> Color Halftone. Use the following settings:

4) You should have something like this:

5) Now apply the Polar Coordinates filter: Filter >> Distort >> Polar Coordinates. Select 'Rectangular to Polar' and click ok. You should have something like the following:

6) Apply a Radial Blur filter: Filter >> Blur >> Radial Blur. Use the following settings.

7) Press 'CTRL' + 'F' on your keyboard to apply the filter again. You should have something like the following:

Pretty cool looking huh? If you want to stick with this vortex-like effect, you can just skip down to step 10 to add an overlay layer and then to step 11 to add color.

8) Apply the Wave filter: Filter >> Distort >> Wave. Use the following settings and hit OK:

9) You should have something like the following:

10) Now duplicate this layer: Layer >> Duplicate Layer. Hit OK. Set the blending mode to 'Overlay'.

11) Let's add some color, shall we? Add a new adjustment layer: Layer >> Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation. Check the 'Colorize' box and adjust the values til you get the color you like.

12) When you're all done, you should get something like this:

That's all there is to it. Feel free to experiment a little to see what you can come up with. Try changing the settings used or toy around with different filters. You can even add your own effects. Be creative and have fun.
