There's a lot of tutorials on different ways to do abstract art. I found out a way to do some cool things, just by sort of experimenting, and it's really easy!
Start out by opening photoshop. Make a new image that is 500x500 pixels.
Once you've done that, use the paint bucket tool to color your canvas black.
Now, go to Filter>>Render>>Lens Flare
Check on the 105 mm prime. You can leave the brightness on 100%. Position it around the center of your canvas, or somewhere near it. Click okay. Go back to Filter>>Render>>Lens Flare and this time choose Movie Prime. Again, leave the brightness on 100%. Position it in the top or bottom(your choice)left hand corner of the canvas, and click okay. Go back to Filter>>Render>>Lens Flare once more and choose Movie Prime again. This time position it on the top or bottom(your choice)Right hand corner of the canvas then click okay.
Note: If you're using a lower version of PS, you may not have the movie prime option. If so, you should use the 35mm prime instead
Your image should now look more or less like this:
Next, go to Filter>>Sketch>>Chrome
Have the settings as: DETAIL-5 and SMOOTHNESS-9
Your image should look like a wierd gray, metallic pool of water or something, but we'll fix that. Go to Filter>>Artistic>>Plastic Wrap
Have the settings as: HIGHLIGHT STRENGTH-11 and DETAIL-7 and SMOOTHNESS-9
Your image should look more or less like this:
The next step is adding the ripples. Go to Filter>>Distort>>Ocean Ripples. Have the settings as: RIPPLE SIZE-8 and RIPPLE MAGNITUDE-10. Click okay. It looks all funny now and ripply. The last step is to twirl it. Go to Filter>>Distort>>Twirl. Have the settings as 246 degrees twirled. Click okay. Now it's rippled, and twirled, but gray is boring, let's add some color.
Go to Image>>Adjustments>>Hue/Saturation. Check the colorize box right above the preview option. Explore with the colors by sliding all those buttons in different directions. Here's how mine turned out:
There's many many different varieties to this, because on all filters there are different options you can make. Try new things with the Lens flare by positioning them elsewhere and changing all those other settings I used. Add text and a few effects, and you'll be on your way! I hope this tutorial was pretty simple, it's pretty much just adding filters :happy: .
