you can't change the hearts hover thing, into anything else. However, you can take it off.

When i hover over the names of my friends a heart appears, can i change this into a spade?

it covers a bit of the ad. i think u could've used a different background image and apply to the content areas too. use display block so the navigation links wont go up and down when u hover them. but i love the hover, setup, and the image itself. =]

It kind of covers the advertisement. You should crop the middle image a bit more, so it don't cover the advertisement.
