it wasnt your code in the first place , so people dont really steal it.
well you can't really "steal" coding. it wasnt' made by you afterall.
I agree with MissHygienic, do not attempt to claim origenator of this. Header codes have been around for decades, all you did was customize it with a CSS. I am a HTML/XML Web Graphic Design Artist.
Your perception of "a Designer" is misleading. If you were met by people who reacted that way toward you, either the reason is that you did not ask in the right or the person was short tempered.
I will say this though, your code was of use for many people.
Do not attempt to down-side people who design. If one may not assist you, then you must find another source.

Well, I appreciated it and the time you took towards educating me without charging tuition and it felt more like humor tongue in cheek rather than anger...thank you
This was really helpful! I've been trying to learn how to do this so I could put my own design up on my blog. I couldn't find any tutorial as good as this one. Kudos to you & thanks so much for posting it! Oh, and do you think you can add a tutorial on how to make the corners of the header rounded instead of pointy?
dont have to be rude about it. obviously people are just trying to make or tweak them on their own. most of the time if you ask a "designer" to help you they get all pissy and say "if i can learn it so can you". so you shouldnt get mad for people wanting to learn
This is a pretty basic HTML code. . . I doubt that people really stole it from you. Unless they stole your ENTIRE code, and not just this piece.
