so, like my ftp post that i made yesterday stated, i just recently got hosted and was looking at wordpress as a way to maintain my site. so, i downloaded the files, opened everything, and was overwhelmed by the amount of files there were and what each was for.

does someone want to help me out or teach me how to use greymatter. i just need something so i dont have to type out my post in notepad and upload it...

I can . Ok greymatter is way easier than wordpress.
Did you setup greymatter or do you need help with that too?

Instructions:
1) Connect to your ftp.
2) make a new folder and call it gm

3) Now format the uploading to ASCII mode:

4) Now upload all .cgi files into your gm folder. Double click on your gm folder and then upload all the .cgi files
5) Now we have to CHMOD all the files but gm-library.cgi. Look below how i get to the chmod place. Once you notice how i chmod you will need to chmod these files to 755"gm.cgi", "gm-karma.cgi", "gm-comments.cgi", and "gm-upload.cgi". Then Chmod everyhting else BUT GM-LIBRARY.CGI to 666.

6) Now make another folder inside your gm folder and call it archives. Chmod your archives folder to 777.
7) Now go back to your main page where all your files are . (out of the gm folder) and make a new folder called emoticons. Upload all the smileys that came with gm.
8) Next go to http://yoursite.com/gm/gm.cgi.
9) username :Alice password : wonderland
10) Go to Configeration and make sure all the paths are right . they should be so you won't have to mess with any but one . The one you need to change is the one that talks about your index file. I can't tell you exactly which one it is because i can't re install gm . So read the config and the one that shows a path for your index file you will need to change the path . So instead of it being yoursite.com/gm/ it should be yoursite.com/ because thats where you index file is.
11) Go back in your ftp and chmod your index file to 666
12) Then look back in the config window and click diagnostics and repair.
13) After you click it if everythigns ok you can work with your gm.
14) Go to return to main menu and click edit authors. Create a new author . That will be you , then delete the Alice author.

You will need an iframe to have gm on your site. For gm customizing tutorials look here:

those are wordpress files. you said gm .
http://www.greymatterforums.com/download/gm1.3.1.zip
plus i would check with your host if greymatter is ok , because some hosts are starting to ban gm because it spams .

if you did it right then your diagnostics and repair would say no errors.
if it says an error ill reinstall it on mine to tell you which one to change

edit// change this
Website Log Path:
The website address of the directory where your main index file is

to yoursite url

Before the iframes
go to edit templates. header sidebar footer templates
and delete the footer and sidebar template things.
so that it will only show your blog

now for the iframes
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=85687

As well as you migth want to edit the header stylesheet and change it to the one on your site. Where you deleted the header and footer stuff , just change the stylesheet in header so gm matches your site.

Nope , log in to your gm
1) go to edit templates >> Header Footer and Sidebar templates
2) In the header part replace the stylesheet in there with yours that you use for your site.
3) Then delete anything under footer and sidebar templates.
4) Then learn iframes and position it and link your blog in the iframe
5) edit your main index.html file . change the div you have? to an iframe and then you have your blog added
6) then write your first entry and customize anything else with gm

make sure that you added you as an author in gm and deleted alice
to write entrys log into gm.cgi
thats all you have to do to edit anything.
