so this friday, my friend told me to go drinking with her and her friend.

they do it every weekend. i seemed to care before, about their health and stuff, but now i don't really.

don't get me wrong, they're not forcing me to drink-- it's my decision. and i want to.

so tell me, what are the risks?

i know that if you drink too much you can like die.
and that if you get caught then you can get fined/whatever.
you might get addicted,
it gives you a terrible hangover.
and you might do something you regret.

so what else?

oh, one question.
it might seem stupid, but say you drink once and you're applying for a job sometime in the next year or so. it won't show up will it? on the drug test, i mean. i know it's not a drug, but just making sure.

I'm not too sure about your question, but if you only drink once, it shouldn't show up one year later. Too much drinking can lead to liver cirrhosis so don't get addicted.

yeah, it is your choice, but there are a lot of problems with it.

your liver could shut down.
you could die.
a whole bunch of other things. id have to do research on it, but i think you could also have to have your stomach pumped. my brother had to take a girl to the hospital the other day because she drank to much rum at once.

i doubt itll show up on drug tests after maybe 2 weeks, but im not sure.

It's really not a problem as long as you're safe and (relatively) responsible. If you funnel a large amount of alcohol or drink as much as you can in a short period of time, it can be dangerous, but if you drink moderately over a long period of time, it's not really a problem. It's possible you could wind up with a nasty hangover, or perhaps get sick and throw up, but that's about all.

Just don't do anything stupid, like drive. And if someone passes out, make sure to lay her on her side, not her back or stomach.

Long term it can cause problems--alcoholism, liver disease, and so forth. So don't overdo it, or feel like you have to show off. And no, it's not like marijuana--it won't show up on a drug test, and it leaves your body fairly quickly, so it's unlikely to show up on blood tests or breath tests unless you are still drunk when you take them.

My personal opinion? It's not really all it's cracked up to be. It can be a good time with the right people, but don't go overboard with it, or start making excessive drinking into a regular habit.

my sister the other day (only 20, not yet legal to drink) drank a little TOO much at a party and she landed in the hospital for almost 300% alcohol in her body. she almost went into a comma but she's better now.

i drink too but, i don't over due it. actually, no one should drink at all...but i won't be a hypocrit :]
+don't drink to be "cool" or "one of them".
+you only get a hangover if you over drink the night before or you are low tolerance.
+i doesn't show on "tests" unless you are an alcoholic.

I agree. I drink socially but always in moderation. I've seen some people who started out as social drinking have progressed into something worse. You have to think smart when it comes to drinking.

the biggest (immediate) risks with drinking are passing out and vomitting, which can result in drowning in your own vomit (lovely, i know), or doing something stupid while your inhibitions are lowered, be it driving, hooking up with someone unsavoury, or falling/wandering int othe road, etc.

if some one passes out, lay them on their side so that vomit is most likely to clear their mouths, and try and have someone reamin fairly sober, so that they can ensure that no one does anything uberly stupid.

ALWAYS have a designated driver.

that's what i was going to say. all in all, don't drink. unless the situations that james mentioned above are appealing to you.

another reason why you shouldn't drink is because someone may have spiked it when you weren't looking...which can result in date rape.

Well pretty much what everyone else said.

Death
Liver Failure [ which could cause death ]
Dont drive

My "brothers" dad was such a hard drinker when he was young, his body cant function without alchohol. So now, every morning he has to have a shot of hard tequila or else his body will spaz out because its so used to alchohol in its system.

Remember that it makes you gain weight too!
that would be a good reason not to drink. When people go on diets the main thing they cut out is Bread, Alcohol, and Carbs. Alcohol packs on weight.
Also, yes hangover and you feel like crap. You damage your liver. You usually Vomit or pass out, and that's never a good thing. It causes death, break ups in families, you lose friends and loved ones, you can basically kill yourself with it or get addicted, you can start to gain weight, and you just woke up in your own vomit. I don't understand why you would want that. But those are the side effects.
I used to drink, and let's just say i will never do that again.

stick to beer
i've never thrown up, passed out, or had a hang-over while drinking beer

hard liquor its very possible that you will be vonmiting up your insides after a little while. . . . and feel crummy the next day

i dont see hwo people can let themselves get to the point of having to goto the hospital . . . you don't takelike 21 shots on your 21rst birthday in the course of a few hours

actually i dont think there is anything wrong but the decisions that are made. i actually never heard someone dying from drinking too much. like nobody at all in my entire 17 years of life.

its usually drinking and driving being 16-18 years old kids have their liscences and do start drinking at that age.

like i drink but i dont have my liscence yet. but i havent got into any trouble and nothing has happened to me . its just the decisions that are made while drunk that are the risks of drinking.

Sadly, many people do die from alcohol poisoning. It is uncommon, but not exactly rare, for such a thing to occur on a college campus, for example. At my university, around 20 students were taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning in the first half of the semester. It certainly can occur and it is a problem.

I agree that if done maturely and responsibly, drinking is not a bad thing, but the key is that it must be done maturely and responsibly, and in moderation.
