K, I've been reading about iPods and stuff and I've seen many different manufacturers (?) names. I'm thinking about getting some sort of mp3/ipod/music player and I wondered what one I should get.

Thanks!

^^agreed ipods r about the best around. they may not have all the features as some other mp3 players, but they're resonably priced, hold a lot of songs, good looking, small etc.

Are you smoking something Raw? The iPods are one of the WORST mp3 players in the world. THe only reason why they are so popular are 3 reasons, A.) The fact that ists made by apple. B.) First mp3 player with 20 gigs to become so popular 3.) Mas marketing campaign.

They actually don't look that good, it's a rip off, and hold as much as any other DAP.

Get either Creative, RCA, iRiver or anything similar to that. Archos is nice, but expensive.

alright; on the 20 gig front:

you have can get

-the creative zen touch
..-cheaper.
..-longer battery life
..-touch interface

-the cowon iAudio X5
..-video support
..-color screen
..-USB OTG

-the iriver H320
..-video support
..-color screen
..-USB OTG
..-phased out, so it's hard to find.

-the iriver H10 20gbs.
..-color screen
..-touch interface
..-DRM music compatible (like yahoo - 5 bucks a month unlimited downloads)

and on the 5/6 gig front you have:

-the creative mini touch
..-removable battery
..-touch interface
..-light up buttons

-the iriver mini 5 gb
..-phasing out for the 6gb, so it's much cheaper... 200 USD
..-color screen
..-removable battery
..-touch interface
..-compatible with DRM music

-the iriver mini 6gb
..- same as above, but 6 gbs and 70 bucks more.

-the rio carbon
..-smaller
..-less functions

My sister just received her Creative Zen Xtra in the mail yesterday. Needless to say, I convinced her to pick it over the other players out there _smile.gif

i think ipods are the best, since they're incredibly easy to use. i suppose it's expensive, but it's well worth it :)

you could get the newer 20gb ones for $300, with color screen. =) if you want a mini wait a few months and they'll probably come out with a color-screen mini happy.gif

I'd say get something from the iriver line or the Rio Carbon Pearl. It's really good and it beats the iPod on battery life and such. Don't get an iPod.

^ i think it sucks because when you're charging the ipod through the computer, i've noticed that it doesn't hold as much battery power. i bought the travel adapter (so i can bring it anywhere and simply plug it into and outlet) and noticed that even though it takes LONGER to charge, the battery lasts longer.

^

that is because USB charging is limited by the amperage that USB puts out, which is around 500 or so millamps.

wall chargers can put out... tons.

most of my friends have ipods and most complain about the battery life, altho some think it is a product of the heavens.
one of my friends has a creative zen and its pretty nice and has a lot of good functions and whatnot, but she accidently made everything in chinese and now she cant read a word.
i myself am researching on iRivers and other regular mp3 players.

i say go for a Zen, or an iRiver
