help for windows xp Options

I did the hp recovery on my computer, and after, it was still messed up. When the recovery was dome a message came up that said something like "there isn't enough room on disk, but windows will start anyway".

Now my computer is slow and I can't install anything, like antivirus programs- i know i have a lot of spyware. And I can't use windows media player.

I have windows xp, but all of the pop up messages are in windows classic form. Grey with the dark bule to white bar at the top. And I can't add a desktop backround, it's only a blue backround.

Can somebody help?

well you are prolly out of hard drive room judging from the message;;
try reinstalling windows completely not just using the recovery cd x[

And I found out that my computer's in safe mode, and that's probably why it's like that. How do I take it out of safe mode?

When you start your computer, maybe you have safe mode selected. Just hit the pause button on the computer when the black screen or something might show up to ask you if you want to start in safe mode. And to reinstall Windows XP, simply insert your Windows XP disk (that probably came with your computer,) and put it in your CD or DVD drive.

Right I knew it was a function key. What I meant was, pause should pause the startup. At least it did on my old Windows 98 PC.

I know you press f8 to goet it into safe mode, but do you still press f8 to get it out of safe mode?

I know there's another way to do it manually, but I don't know where to go.

well check your physical drives. How much space do you have on C: (or wherever your OS is)? How much do you have total? is that the right number?

Coz you MIGHT have messed up the PARTITION. meaning either
a: not enough room distributed onto your system drive. too much on the other one(s).
b: only made 1 partition, the rest are being unused.

usually a RECOVERY CD from OEM computers reset partitions for you, so logically you aren't supposed to have that problem. Unless:
a: your recovery cd allows you to specify partition by yourself.
b: HP has turned so stupid that they can't even make recovery cds anymore.

but then again, my gf's toshiba recovery cd had options when she recovered. One of the options was to keep the partition while recovering. it's a japanese computer, that model is not even available here in the stats; it might be different from most of the computers here. But it's possible that it's a partition problem even though you're using OEM recovery cds.

So do recovery AGAIN, make sure if you're given options, choose FACTORY SETTINGS, or ORIGINAL SETTINGS or something that sounds like that. It should be fine. if you are absolutely sure that everything's done perfectly, then it's a hardware problem, might need to get a new harddrive.

I did the recovery AGAIN and then everything was perfect. It recovered and everything was back to normal, but then when I turned my computer off and turned it on the next day, it had the same problems as before.

It should have come in a green case. Look in the boxes that your computer came with if you still have them.

Well you can't because if they've registered, you can't use their serial code. You can buy Windows XP at a store, though.

No, HP and Compaq's drivers, software and OS's are on a partition of the HDD. When you install the OS from the partition it installs the drivers and such. This is with HP and Compaq systems you buy a Best Buy or stores like that. I dunno about factory shipped.
