Should we just make it so posts don't count in Introductions or just make a rule against copying and pasting responses?

First, It's a good thing posts do count in introductions. It nudges people that normally wouldn't, to try posting in the introduction section. Tho it always has bugged me when people copy and paste in the introduction section just to get their post count up. But not too many people do that, About 80% of them are personal. Right now there isn't a rule about copying and pasting in the introduction section, but i guess it is frowned upon. It's when people abuse the copy and paste (like you showed in your examples) and when that happens then you give them a warning, cuz maybe they don't think they are doing wrong. You gotta atleast tell them first. There are only a few people here and there that do that, and most of them are new to this site. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but like i said, if someone does go overboard then just tell them to stop. Most of them will.
I would say copying & pasting in the intro section is like Spamming's cousin. lol you can make them both rules and all...but i mean there is Always going to be someone breaking those rules, so just deal when it comes up :)

The only reason most people post in introductions is to boost their post count. They don't care about welcoming new members, they just want their post # to be higher. mellow.gif

oh i just thought of something coming to this subject.. yeah you know it the staff postitions for people staff well i'll quote it--

QUOTE(micron @ May 27 2005, 3:02 AM)
People Staff: Are you a people person? Then this is a job for you! Responsibilities include moderating the community center, welcoming newbies, making interesting topics, and being nice and helpful in general.

so keep in mind, welcoming newbies is part of the "people staff" position.

but so we don't consider our staff members, making spam or anybody else, i agree with the post count, on the other hand when a newbie first gets to make a post about thereselfs, its like there first post (if you get what i mean) anyways i hope i contributed to this in a good way.

Does it really up your PPD? Didn't know that since posting in Sandbox doesn't up your post count or up your PPD.

As Robbi said though, your post counts aren't increased in Introductions.

I thought it did. ._. But then again, I also thought that posting in the sandbox upped your ppd. Posting back in forum games did, so I just assumed.. which is stupid, but I did anyway because it was reasonable to.

A lot of you are saying that people post in the introductions just to get their posts up... FYI it doesnt put your posts up nor does it up your PPD i do it every day just to welcome new members because when i got it.... every reply meant the world to me. It relaly makes you feel welcome

^ It used to affect PPD. I think some of the replies here predate that change. :)

not that this has to do with introductions, but i dont think people should be allowed to be bumping over a month old topics in xanga showcase especially since people probably have changed their layout. Quarantine. for example.

'Hazing' isn't really going to get Createblog popularity points, is it? It's easy to be an a.sshole from behind a keyboard.

Introductions are always useful - if only for new members that post there. I think there's a lot of good that comes out of being welcomed *respectfully* into an online community. If most new members didn't know that the complete bastards hanging around here are all socially inept twelve year olds, then it would put a lot of newbies off coming here. And it does.

You rather unfortunately proved my point.

Createblog in itself is a well-respected website. It is the reputation of CB that suffers as a result of members having little respect for others.

That's it for replying to this topic. No doubt you'll find something absolutely hilarious to reply with. I won't be.

People get in trouble if they just copy and paste... if they are genuine replays then I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't understand the whole fascination with high post counts anyway blink.gif
