lol. never heard that one. what kind of computer do you have? do you use windows? Try asking "What kind of keyboard do you have?" I don't think operating systems have anything to do with this. Try Control Panel>Printers and Other Hardware>Keyboard and check Device Status. It might be acting up.. And there's this thing with keyboard shortcuts, but that depends on what keyboard you use. And I forgot where that is. |

The Operating System Has Everything To Do With It. That's Where The Settings For Everything Is. The Physical Keyboard Has Nothing To Do With What's Going On There. Your Computer Controls It. Wow. How/Why Do You Type Like This? So maybe the operating system has something to do with it, but some keyboards have shortcuts. Y'know, like you press spacebar and it mutes? Yeah.. It could be the same with Macs, but I haven't been on my MacBook in a while. Don't know about Linux though, 'cause I haven't been near a system on Linux since July. I'm guessing that someone made a shortcut on your computer that when you press space, sound mutes. Try to find keyboard shortcuts somewhere and change the settings. Wait-What brand and model keyboard do you have? And are you on a laptop or PC? Oh, right. I forgot to say that if you're using iTunes, it's normal 'cause the song pauses when you hit space. |

Ok. What keyboard do you use (brand and/or model number)? And where does the sound mute from? (iTunes, WM Player, Winamp, someone's website...?)

I use a Compaq keyboard. It happens automatically. Doesn't matter what I'm on. Plus, I don't have iTunes.

There's this Keyboard Test thing on my computer.
You probably have a Compaq computer, so it's in the Help and Support Center. Search "keyboard shortcuts" in the Help and Support Center. It should say Keyboard Test somewhere. So click it and run the Keyboard Test. |

Ergh. I'm to lazy to get a screen shot, but here's what it says for my search results:
QUOTE Compaq topics Checklist for troubleshooting a wireless keyboard or mouse How do I change the Connect button? Replacing the battery in a wireless keyboard Understanding the wireless keyboard or mouse receiver lights and buttons Why isn't the USB hardware device working? Keyboard test Try searching keyboard test. |

Hmm. Thats odd. I typed in Keyboard Test and this is what came up. Oh, wait. You're using XP Professional? I'm using Home. With SP 2. That's probably why it's different.. And if you have another keyboard in the house, I suggest trying that one on your computer to see if it's different. If it doesn't affect the sound, then it's probably something wrong with your keyboard. If it continues, then it's probably a shortcut that you or someone else set. Or something with your computer. |
