Lord Of The Rings is 1000 times better then Harry Potter. I know people say that Harry Potter is a spinoff from LOTR. but the are COMPLETELY different. The books are completely different, the movies are too. I know they both have mythical creatures in it and what not. but they aren't the same lol, i dun care what you people think ;)

Even though it is said that Harry Potter has witchcraft I think I still prefer it more. I never really got into Lord of the Rings.

Lord of the Rings is better right now because it has lasting value. If people are still talking about Harry Potter in 50 years like they are now about Lord of the Rings, then Harry Potter will finally be allowed to be used in the same sentence as Lord of the Rings

LOTR,

well, actually it was written by the writer's response to ww(i'm not sure which one) but i think one.

look at the collelations.

tolkien was pulled from his life in the english countryside to war across europe.  probably WWI, because of the arival of the elephants ( tanks.).  i think the colleration ends here, but you can see how it was based off of having to leave the comforts of home for an adventure.

lord of the rings is the best classic...  and i applause peter jackson for making it come to life.    he cast all the charaters great, and the filming is exquisite.  lord of the rings is the book come to life.

harry potter is just a spinoff of the book.  they didn't put that much detail into it.  what really sucks it their efforts to make it shorter and PG.  it takes out all the fun stuff.  and the changing directors, not good.  the should also have waited till the 7th one came out and filmed it all at once.  it would still take long and the actors would grow, but this is terrrible.

LOTR, all the way.  they have a cool shiny ring, and what does harry potter have?  an invisiblility cloak.  did i mention the shiny ring is indestrucable?  what happens when harry tears his cloak?

World War One. LOTR interests me more - has more adventure and action, although HP is also a great series

lotr. definitely. harry potter is just get longer and longer, with no more or less detail, which makes it bad. Lotr keeps pretty much the same formula, but gives new language and no crappy gimmicks or surprises in the books

movies: there is a reason why LOTR won 11 oscars
book: the book gets kinda boring sometimes, because of the way its spoken and such. only because it was written so long ago. but it still is good. makes your imagination have a field day.

Harry Potter:i didnt read all of them whistling.gif , but when i did read them, they were interesting, and fun sometimes. but it just seems like its on a lower level than LOTR. just my opinion

Lord of the Rings got boring. And lets face it. The only reason the movie probably sold so much is because of the ACTORS. Orlando Bloom... and all those other people.

LOTR

It's just well... it's old... a classic, it has a certain something that makes it different from Harry Potter

lord of the rings rules all! its waaay more in depth then hp will prolly ever go. i mean, jrr tolkien made up new languages and even a whole through history of middle earth. its insane. even though there are only 3 books in the series, it has more substance that hp will never have.

I think the two are incomparable, and it's completely fine to enjoy both. One isn't better than the other. They both fall into the broad "fantasy" genre, but they're still a lot different. Lord of the Rings is a more serious look at some issues through a fantasy setting; Harry Potter is more of a fun sort of series. While both have some similar elements, such as good and evil, magic, wizards, and so forth, you can hardly say that Harry Potter is a rip-off of Lord of the Rings, since those are common elements to most fantasy settings. Tolkien did really start off the fantasy genre and deserves much credit for his creation, but not everything that came after him is a "rip-off" of Tolkien's work.
