Ok I searched of course and I didnt find anything on this, so.....

Do you consider yourself white washed?

1. Whitewashed
To be assimilated into the N.A society, forgetting your own language and culture and tries to act like a white person to gain acceptance. Looked down upon both of the cultures he/she supposedly belongs in.

2. whitewashed
When a person who isn't white forgets their culture and acts like a white person.
Billy: I'm moving to Texas.
Sally: I hope you don't get whitewashed
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=whitewashed

I had an interesting conversion about this with a friend (who is black) that considers herself "whitewashed" and then that got me thinking so I did a little research on it.

Unfortunately, I think I am. _unsure.gif

I don't think I would be, if I actually understood Tagalog. It's difficult to immerse myself in Filipino culture and that way of life when I can't speak the language. I can relate more to American culture because English is my primary language.

I'm accused of being whitewashed. These stupid little girls would tell me how whitewashed I am for not celebrating such and such holidays or for not speaking Vietnamese when I'm around Vietnamese. I hate to tell them that it's simply a preference of mine and that I could beat them all in a writing/reading/culture/history test. But ah... people will say what they wanna say.

Anyhow, yeah I think I'm sorta whitewashed, although I probably used to be more so when I was in middle school/early high school, but I'm still sort of.

I'm whitewashed completely, but I don't do it for attention. I was born in the USA; how do you expect me to speak Vietnamese and know about my culture? I don't even go by the same religion as most Vietnamese (Buddhism). I'm whitewashed and proud, I guess. I'd rather be white than asian and I don't really have any asian pride. pinch.gif

Interesting topic.

But no, I'm not whitewashed. I'm a fob ---- the biggest fob can be.

But my sister is whitewashed. She hates fob people. SO she doesn't like when I'm always around her when I'm with my friends.

I'm semi-whitewashed. I still stay true to my culture, but I'm a little Americanized.
