What types of softwares are able to make/create DVD's on the computer, so that it'll be playable on your DVD player as well.

iDVD for Mac OS X is great.

On the Windows side, I think there's something called DVD Creator that is pretty good. I have it at home--I'm not at home right now, but I'll check on the title when I go home for lunch.

Nero has nice DVD software, its expensive though. $79.99!Online http://nero.com

Easy DVD Creator is made by Roxio and is HORRIBLE. I hate roxio. Updates take to much time.

most dvd burners come with software....check out the help files to see if it'll make dvd's that play on your dvd player. Nero's is pretty good and I have Roxio but i only use it for making CDs

No, DVD players generally use MPEG-2 and a variety of audio formats.

Dvd Studio Pro is so awesome. That's what my mom uses to make DVDs in her post production studio, and I use it too. It's a little complicated- but you can figure it out and there is always the manual. A lot of stuff on it is self explanatory though. biggrin.gif

It also I think has the ability to convert certain kinds of movie files into mpeg-2...so that it can be burned onto a DVD.

Isn't DVD Studio Pro Mac-only though? I could be wrong, but I think JAMx33 is looking for a Windows program.
