I think certain people may come out at racist because of the area they live in, when they are surrounded by idiots from the same group.

but if u assert superiority based on that alone. YES

imo

True. Like for instance. If I see a group of black people acting up, and I am with my friends, my friends will be like see there go your cousins. Now is that racism? No because we are just joking around.

yeah if someone tells a racist joke, i'm not going to say U'RE RACIST!!!!!! i don't think they are based on that, but if someone claims to be superior to me because of their race alone...well yeah, that is after all the definition of racism.

Nope, no I don't, but my case is different. Because you know the story with me and Asians.

A lot of people fail to understand the concept though that, sometimes people claim to be superior to others not because of their race, but because of the individual, I don't know if I'm making any sense though.

yeah i get what u're saying, and i agree 100%. i just mean when someone flat out says that they are superior to me because we are different racially, i do believe that to be the definition of racism.

yeah, but if u think everyone who isn't asian is an idiot, then u urself are a delusional idiot. we can obviously look around and see many intelligent people who aren't asian.

i suppose we do disagree though. i don't think noticing a difference is racism. i do think that believing u are superior to someone else because of race alone is.

i highly doubt all the students in the original poster's story actually thought themselves superior to asians. yet they made racist remarks. that whole situation could be deemed as racist. that's my point.

one doesn't have to think themselves better than anyone else to be racist; one can simply make a generalization or stereotype, and they could be deemed racist. even a joke could be taken seriously. but what i find hypocrytical are people who claim not to be racist, yet they understand the generalizations and the stereotypes. imo, subconsciously, they agree with the stereotypes. afterall, a percentage of a joke is your true thought.

i understand where stereotypes come from, but i don't agree that they are true. so yeah, i duno about that one. i don't think i'm subconsciously agreeing with it based on the fact that i see it.

Stereotyping isn't racism. It's recalling what you see everyday in the majority of a group. Now if you're using stereotyping to degrade a person and make them seem inferior to you, that's racism.

i disagree. the fact that you recognize that stereotype already puts you in league with a racist. why? because not all racists are gonna flat out treat you with disrespect. for the most part, you wouldn't even know if a friend of yours is racist. they could simply not act on their racist feelings.

i could be deemed a "racist" because of my thoughts and acceptance of racial and cultural differences, but it's not like i "degrade" people and make them seem inferior to me because of their race or the stereotype going through my head.

i mean the only reason you know i feel this way is 'cause i stated it. if i had never said anything, you'd assume i'm just "stereotyping", which imo, fuels racism.

i think asians are superior, therefore making me a racist = fact.

now if i hadn't said i felt that way, would you have called me racist? if i had stated all these negative stereotypes, that apparently to you, doesn't make me a racist, would you have thought i were racist?

if you say no, then there goes my point again. you wouldn't have known i were racist if i hadn't said i look down on everyone who's not asian. many people feel this way, and they don't outright say it. so in my opinion, once one starts recognizing the stereotypes and agreeing with them, they fall under the same category.

QUOTE(anubis @ Jul 14 2005, 11:04 PM) *

so maybe i'll regret typing this later because i'm in more of a rage right now. but i am just SO sick and tired of rascism. and i want to know who else suffers from it. if it wasn't for the pg-13 rule, i'd be expressing this point a lot easier.

for those of you who are wondering, the topic made by brandonsaunders is different than this one. the others i've been sent (below) are different. mine is asking WHY PEOPLE ENCOURAGE IT. so don't try and get this closed because "oh you feel it conveys the same meaning."

IT DOESN'T!

so today, when i went to drivers ed class, this one guy--let's call him jason, was telling the entire class about one of his driving experiences.

he was like "okay so i was at this intersection, and this stupid chink tries to pass me... etc etc etc"

and then everyone laughed and giggled and thought it was funny that, jason, such a witty little boy, would use such vocabulary in something that was directed towards the entire class.

**for those of you who don't know what a chink is, it's basically the word, n****r, against chinese people**

and you know what? call me sensitive but that extremely offended me.

it wasn't necessarily the fact that he used the word (which was bad enough), but the fact that everyone was laughing about it.

out of about 30 people, i was one of two azn people in the entire class, so everyone around me consistently started staring at me and snickering going "oooh is it gonna offend him?"

and that just about pissed me off enough.

the other azn girl may have ignored it, but i wasn't just going to sit there and take that

so i basically blew up at the class.

this one kid was particularly looking at me and giggling to himself so i couldn't take it anymore.

i started yelling at him.

i was like "JESUS F***ING CHRIST!! WHY THE F*** ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME? WHAT? YOU GOT A PROBLEM AGAINST AZNS? ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME 'CAUSE I'M AZN? DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY?! IS THIS FUNNY TO YOU?"

and he and everyone else backed down, knowing how serious i was about it. they were quiet about the issue, and the drivers ed teacher said nothing. she knew i was right, so she had nothing to say either.

--

so then my friends at drivers ed told me later that i was overreacting. everyone thought i was overreacting.

but i didn't think so.

i think i had a right to be mad at the fact that people think this is funny. that people think rascism is suddenly so funny.

and i thought of all the people out there that had to deal with these things--on a daily basis.

and me, living in texas, only encouraged it since, even when i live in an urban area in dallas, there are still some narrow minded texans out there that only see white as the beloved race.

SO

my question to everyone else is, do you guys ever have to deal with shit like this?

and if you're one of those a**f***s that make these remarks, or encourage it, why?

WHY DO PEOPLE ENCOURAGE RASCISM??

why do most people just sit there and let it happen in daily life?

You know what the real problem is? It's people like you who tend to give more than two shits about things like this. They were fucking looking at you because you're fucking Asian. Get over yourself you fucking China man.

Calling some one a chink isn't racist. Saying shit isn't racist at all. It's when people actually carry out their actions for the sake of harming a human being of another race. So, you're really just making a big deal out of nothing.
