I'm trying to decide which sport to play in the fall. Either XC or VB. I really want to play volleyball, but I don't have much experience. They have tryouts and cuts, so to make the team I have to be good. I was thinking of practicing a lot and going to camps over the summer to catch up to everybody else.

The thing is, if i don't make the team, that would be it for the season, and I wouldn't even be able to run cross country because it would be too late.

So I'm not sure if I should take the risk and tryout for volleyball or just go for crosscountry to guarantee i have a sport to play.

I'd choose volleyball. But I'm not much of a runner...but it does seem like fun. It's more of a team sport, where as cross country seems more independent. It doens't seem as fun.

I like both of them! But I like volleyball a tad bit more.... I'm just afraid of not making the team and then not being able to do anything, because I still like XC too. I know I should try for volleyball, but I want to know if it's worth it. Do you think volleyball is game you can just pick up on in one summer? Cuz that's the main thing.

There are sum sports where experience is a necessity, like softball, but others like badmitton you can pick up pretty quick. If there's no chance of a beginner being able 2 play vollyball at high school level, i'm not going 2 take the risk.

yes vb is definately something you can pick up over one summer. i played vball a bit during middle school (8th grade) and then, i stopped playing until last summer. i played all summer last year, and i tried out for the team this year, and got in. i guess, i support vball since i'm a vball player.

Well, I do cross-country, and I think it's a lot of fun. It's really good exercise, and trains you well. And as a team, you get really close (may be the same with volleyball too). And, after cross-country, there's indoor and outdoor track, so you can keep up with the running. But ultimately, it is your choice.

I like volleyball a lot better, but that's probably because I can't run for my life pinch.gif and unless you're seriously uncoordinated, volleyball isn't a hard sport to learn. Maybe it's tough to be really really good at it, but not to learn. I never practice volleyball and I've never joined the team, but just two months of winter intramurals volleyball (for the people who aren't on teams in a certain trimester - i don't do anything in the winter) and I'm as good or better than half the people who were on the team in the fall happy.gif okay okay no one has to congratulate me...im just happy for myself. also volleyball comes really naturally to me... but i can improve in a lot of areas.

Why aren't I on the volleyball team? Because I play tennis laugh.gif hehe.

That's a hard decision...I wanted to join VB, but then I'm in XC, and since they're in the same season, I can't do both. I dunno...think of the pros and cons for each sport and then decide.

well, i'm a volleyball player and i hate running... so i'd say volleyball.
but you're best bet would probably be to try some camps this summer and see how you're doing compared to some of the other girls and keep up with training for xc too.
usually you can tell what the coaches think of you during the summer. also, always keep a positive attitude and always be willing to try new stuff the coaches tell you, they like that.
good luck with your choice!

That's weird, because...everything you just said there describes me. Plus, I play tennis too. Haha.
I say, go for volleyball! If you love it more, then you'll enjoy it. There's a ton of running in order to keep fit for that sport, so it's like xc too, kinda.

XC.

It's one of the best things I ever did...ever. It'll get you in shape, burn fat, brings people closer, and it feels great after you know you just finished that 10K in under an hour.

I think volley ball is a really fun sport to play. And its easier than cross country lol. I say if you really cant make the choice, go out this some friends one day and do both, see what u have more fun doing, then pick that one.
