to me this band is just godly :) cedric and omar left BOYS NIGHT OUT because they felt LIMITED!
they had toured six years gaining not much but a little commercial success, i still listen to that band every now and then. but any way those two hooked up with drummer jon theodore (golden, royal trux, H.I.M.((i know you guys know this band))), a student of "voodoo drumming" in Haiti! and bassist juan alderete (racer X) in 2002 after a short tour and the add on of rick RUubin (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run DMC, System Of A Down, Slayer, Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy) at the producing helm and FLEA on bass, the band was ready to record the most amazing album ever, De-Loused In The Comatorium.
QUOTE
De-Loused is a concept album, a dedication based on the death of Julio Venegas, an El Paso artist who killed himself in 1996. It chronicles a first suicide attempt, a subsequent coma, the emergence from it, a final successful attempt, and the reflection afterwards. Its eight tracks (recorded in a "haunted" house in Laurel Canyon), interwoven with one another, form up as an hour of music that truly expands minds and destroys expectations. Adjectives to describe the sounds within aren't exact the norm: Expansive, uncompromising, ethereal, sexy, morphing, cascading, overtaking. Alternately recalling but never imitating Led Zepplin, Miles Davis, Fugazi, Santana, and Pink Floyd, this album is just as important and just as amazing as any before it.

this album has never bored me, it jsut keeps getting better and better each time i listen to it.....the singer's (cedric) voice is just AMAZING it has amazing distance and control, alot of people have argued with me about htis, saying that its an automatic tuner, but they havent seen them live...every one needs to see them live lol. youd think it would be impossible to make it sound the same as it is on the album, and well, it is! you get to see their raw talent and not the studio perks, and believe me, they all have amazing talent and are consumed by the music they make, its so pure. the only bad thing is that they kind of ignore the audience and get so consumed by the music, its like they arent playing for any one but themselves and the music. which i dont mind one bit, it sounds superb! X))))))) i love texas i love this band DID I MENTION I LOVE THE ABSTRACT LYICS hehehhe well im going to stop ranting now, i just wanted to share this with some people to see if any one else listens to this band or to get someone to go out and buy this album :D ...i feell alot better now whistling.gif

i really really loved that song "The Widow" but when I downloaded some other songs, they weren't nearly as good. We'll see if they can continue with their success from that song or if they're a one hit wonder

Oh man, I have been listening to The Mars Volta for quite awhile. If you haven't tried already I would recommend listening to At The Drive In as well, that's where the people from The Mars Volta came from. See, when At The Drive In split up, they created two new bands: The Mars Volta and Sparta. Personally, I don't like Sparta, but that's just because they are a different style of music. I'm sure if I listened to them again, I would like them because my taste in music changes so much.

My favorite album from The Mars Volta is definitely De-Loused In The Comatorium. I love This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed. To tell the truth, the whole album is really good. My favorite song on that album has changed so many times. It has ranged from Cicatriz ESP to Eriatarka to Roulette Dares. I just decided that I won't choose a favorite and listen to them all. What are you guy's favorite songs by them?

I love The Mars Volta. I can sit through Cassandra Gemini for hours.

They really take me back to the glory days of Rush and all them. Why aren't more modern bands pushing out the kickass progressive rock?

The Mars Volta isn't bad.

I like At the Drive-In, Cedric and Omar's old band, a hell of a lot better though.

AtDI simply pwned.

The Mars Volta kicks, for sure. I like their first album better than the new one, but "The Widow" is pretty good. I'm thinking of going to see them with SOAD if they come near where I live. It should be interesting.
