When did become an acceptable modding action to do this all the time? There have been too many examples lately (I don't want to bring up old issues), but what has happened to the Elba = Melie thread? I never got to read it. Just because it's been resolved doesn't mean it needs to be deleted. It's really irritating for things to be deleted, and it decreases accountability, because then things can't be referenced and quoted.

Kinda glad you brought this up, because I've been wanting to discuss this but we've all had other things on our minds..

The topics that have been deleted recently were deleted because they were "spam" and "useless clutter", I believe was the reason. Not long ago it was mentioned that we shouldn't JUST close those topics; we should instead close and delete them.

Specifically in the case of the Elba = Melie topic, that had reached several pages and had gotten resolved (i.e., we all found out that Elba is in fact NOT Melie). Anyone reading the topic had no reason to be confused and there was no reason for that topic to be deleted.

I disagree with this method, personally, and Jusun has always been blatantly against deleting posts as well. I would personally rather not see it; it just hasn't been brought up (until now).

I think it's stupid to delete them D: Someone bring it back, plz. Why are only some useless/clutter topics deleted? I think the only topics that should be deleted are advertisements.

Exactly!

I mean, if you don't want clutter or whatever, you can at the very least move the topic somewhere else (like the VIP) instead of deleting it completely.

Also, what about closed topics? Why aren't all closed topics considered clutter? We can't post in them, so why not delete 'em all?

Either that, or allow us to view the Trash Can so if we ever need to reference something, we can actually find them.

i can't imagine a couple topics cluttering this place up. i mean honestly whatever topic clutter you get rid of is just going to be replaced by a topic/topics bitching about the topic being gone. i don't think running in these circles is necessary for the members or staff. especially over one topic that wouldn't matter if had just sat there until it got knocked off the page.

idk. if the staff wants to mess with this then go ahead. i just think you guys would be better off to leave topics like those, shrugs. it seems like it would less work for you too.

Real quick, because I'm at work and can't be on long. I don't like the deleting of topics. I think I've been pretty clear on that. If we're going to delete things in the name of "clutter", then "clutter" should be more defined (if possible). I come along, move something to VIP. Someone else comes along, closes a topic and leaves it. Someone else comes along, closes the topic and deletes it. I can see how people might be getting mixed signals.

We're going to be discussing this and hopefully come up with a uniform way of handling these and make it clear how these topics will be handled.

I can tell you where my mind is (sort of). If it's spam, I move it to the VIP Lounge, especially since Forum Games (Sandbox formerly) is back to being just that, Forum Games. If it's a topic made for the sole purpose of calling someone a bitch, arrogant or a topic created for the sole purpose of Moderator Feedback (for better or for worse), I'm going to close it. We have a Moderator Feedback thread and really, I don't see why people don't respond there. Maybe I'm being naive.

On a personal level, I'm fine with topics being closed and staying. They'll get bumped down soon enough.

Anyway, I wanted to respond here, let you guys know that it isn't being ignored or unnoticed.

well i guess i'm just confused as to who has decided deleting is the thing to do now then? only a couple weeks ago backstage we all seemed to agree that it wasn't cool to delete a whole topic. i know you were completely clear about that back there rebecca, i remember that. i thought everyone pretty much agreed though, unless i'm thinking of something else. so i guess you can see how i would think "wtf" when now it's being done with basically the same staff.

Or just fire Trish. She seems to be the only one who deletes topics. Remove her modding abilities for a couple of days and see if the problem goes away.

She only deletes things to hide the truth, or she deletes things to save her name. I don't see anyone else running around, deleting things when they're brought into it.

What I'm back? (I'm so getting busted for being on the internet too long today lol)

Yes, I'm pretty anti delete, I prefer to edit posts if there's naughty content.

That being said, blatant bashing is something I might be inclined to boot. I don't find the hurting of people's feelings a necessity. I understand kidding around and that sometimes it's hard to figure out whether or not someone is kidding. But if you're just posting "such and such is a fat whore" and it isn't something you are recognizably (sp., sorry) chummy with, I'm going to wager a guess that you're just being a troll. The other bootable threads are ad's, but that goes without saying. Having said that, I'm pretty open and lenient when things are explained to me via PM.

Name who on staff actually deletes threads.

I know Trish came up with the rule, but that's because she was getting shit. Who cares? Everyone's been getting it.

i didn't know the elba = melie thread had bashing though?

i duno, i only read it the first day or whatever, so if it did then someone correct me. just from what i read of that thread i don't really get why it had to be deleted rather than just closed when it was resolved. that's what confused me.

It got deleted because it tarnished Melie's reputation (?) and almost got her banned.

Who's going to come forward and own up to this? If no one does, then that crosses two people off my bolded list.

Ok, the mystery is over.

I know exactly who deleted them, Sarah did. Now, before you jump down her throat (and I would really, really appreciate it if you didn't), please understand something.

Sarah is not an experienced Community Center staff member. Just as I'm not an overly experienced Design/Resource Center staff member. Dani is a good mixture of the two. It is nice to have balance in the administrator positions (strong RC, strong CC, can go either way). Sarah was doing what she thought she should do, since we had been discussing what to do with multiple spamming topics. To clarify, spamming topics that are made one right after another. The melie=elba one wasn't necessarily a spamming issue, but because it was embarrassing to melie and she was completely innocent, I think that is why, in part that particular thread was deleted.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could give her a chance to ease into the Community Center. She made some judgment calls, it happens. Those are still in the trash can from what I can see, so they're not lost forever (although I'm not sure why you'd want them back). Again, her specialty is in Design related forums. That isn't to say that she isn't supposed to be in the Community Center, that it's forbidden to her, but her strong experience has been in other areas. So can you please cut her some slack? We'll work with her (and everyone on staff for that matter) to get everyone on the same page regarding the deletion of threads.

So, as far as discussing threads being deleted, I'm fine with this staying open and not moved to resolved for the time being. If, however, this turns into something else, if people start spamming away, bashing, needlessly name calling, etc then it will be closed.

Ok, dinner time. =)

Well, if someone could just restore the topic, that'd be great and we could put this all behind us. I just wanted to show Nicki since she didn't get to see it and I also wanted to be able to look back on it to have a good laugh. Thank you.
