you can actually download some thick stripes and get some thick patterns when you use them on photoshop.
you can get thick stripes here: http://pootato.org/downloads/patterns/ but there are other patterns that come in that set . |

here's an easy way.
open a new image, about --------------- that big (sorry but i cant measure right now) then make 3 straight lines through it, in what ever direction you wish. fill them in. then when you add the tiny pic to your lay out make sure the background area looks like this that should make the little img with lines look like stripes |
