Well, you can rotate the layer and apply the brush, so it will be visible in that direction when you rotate it back to its normal position.

Yes you can (This is a different way than what sharerol said; my way is flipping the actual brush and not the layer)

Steps

1) Make a new layer (or use whatever layer you want the brush to be on)

2) Pick a brush (after you select the brush tool in your tool box)

3) On the right where it has the brushes tab click on the brushes tab

4) Click on the top left of the brushes tab box that comes up (...I cannot remember what that particular selection is called...Brush something but it's not any of the little check boxes under it: it's the main brush selection thing...gahh)

5) On the right there should appear a Circular image that has an arrow (kind of like an angle circle that shows 360 degrees. Drag the arrow in the direction that you want the brush to turn (how ever many degrees. Say you want it to be completely backwards-->Drag it 180 degrees to the left)...It should flip the brush (if you look at the bottom there should be a brush pattern that mimicks what you are doing so you can check yourself)

Did that make any sense? I can post some pictures later, but right now I'm on my other computer...
