Why is this happening?, help! Options

On the left side, the custom module with the quote of the day and the posting calender both get cut off on the end.

Why?

Here is my code in the header. I traced the problem to there but can't figure out what it is.

any help?

edt: I figured it out. I found that it was becaus eof the opacity. As long as the opacity is below 50 the whole box stays. Anything above that and the box gets cut off. Why is that?

So I still have a problem. I need to make the columns on the right and left opaque so you can see the background but without cutting off the boxes. any help now?
