For some reason the pencil tool , is now an x , i want to get it back to a pencil how can I do that?

You mean it comes out as an x when you use the pencil tool or you see the x on the toolbar? You'll probably have to keep the mouse on that button and let this little menu thing appear next to it. There should be other brush options beside it.

caps lock is on, or mabey the tab button, i forget which one it is but I am sure it is one of those

Oh! From what MM said, I remember now. It's the Caps Lock. Happens all the time.=)
