Id rather pay $100 more for a nice small reliable mp3 player than an unreliable nomad which is the size of 6 wallets or a lyra which is twice as big as the nomad.

i'm not saying ipods suck.

they are great music players. even a chimp could use one. the noise to sound ratio could use some work, and the battery life, but it's very simple to use.

but, it costs a rather bit... you can get a creative with more features for $100 less.

and the ipods are only good for playing music...

you can't record, listen to radio, etc. without expensive extras.

and some people really hate the click wheel (yea, yea i'm probably the only one... but i hate touch pads too... i feel that the wheel should spin... )

anyways: basically if you want the following, you shouldn't get an ipod:

` recording
`line in
` FM radio
` color screen w/ picture viewing
`color screen w/ video viewing
`good noise to sound ratio
` two headphone jacks
` USB On the go
` something cheaper

Ipoo.

if the Ipod cost 150 bucks it'd be fine... because that's how much it should cost based on it's features.

i got my ipod 2 years ago for christmas when they first came out (generation one bitches!) and now i'm over it. everyone thinks they're so trendy and cool, but personally i think they're a little cliche and that there ARE better options out there. i would like to get a rio karma, but since all my songs are in acc (or is it aac? whatever the apple format is) format, they won't play on any other mp3 player. here are its specs:

-20GB* HDD plays back over 330 hours of MP3 or 660 hours of WMA music (over 5000 MP3 or 10,000 WMA songs)**
-USB 2.0 for fast transfers
-Transfer content between multiple PCs
-15-hour continuous playback with the rechargeable LiIon battery
-5-Band parametric equalizer with pre-sets
-Dynamic playlist generation
-Auto-DJ intelligently finds, mixes and creates playlists from tracks on command
-Included docking station supports: -- Dual RCA Line-Outs to connect to most home stereo components -- Ethernet port -- Assign an IP address for networking capability -- Auto-synchronization with host PC
-Plays Ogg Vorbis (a free music format)

hopefully i can find a file converter soon, or i'll have to reimport about 75 cds....

oh, and my dad got the black 20GB iriver (don't know the model name) and i found the menu system so confusing i just stopped even trying to use it. i wouldn't reccommend it unless you want to spend some quality time with the guide book.

Shoot, posted as my sister again, w/e. But IPods don't suck, their good players but like has been said before, they've become extremely cliche. Because of this, Apple regulates the prices of them and it's impossible to find any good deals on them. Other players can be had for a great deal less and often have more options.

And since when were nomads unreliable? What player are you comparing to, Creative which makes nomads makes a ton of MP3 players, Zen, Zen Xtra, Zen Touch, Muvo2, Muvo TX, just look at their site. http://www.creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=213 those are their MP3 players. They also make small MP3 players like the Zen Micro which competes in the same market as the Ipod mini. Then they have the even smaller Flash based MP3 players. Then the larger Notebook harddrive based MP3 players which compete with the Apple IPod.

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a RCA Lyra A/V Jukebox soon, Sharper Image has it for 399.99 then with a $30 off coupon, 369.99 then we use discover cash back bonus so cut that in half, $185 then $50 rebate from RCA which brings the final price down to $135. Which is a VERY good price for something that can play videos, display photos, and play music. It also has a larger screen than the iRiver h320. But it IS bigger but I'm willing to give up portability for more features. Plus I don't think that the iRiver can directly record video from TV or DVD's, correct me if I'm wrong. Only problem with the A/V Jukebox is it's short batterylife but that doesn't really concern me.

the Video capabilitys of the H320 will awe you...

i don't have a dig. camera, so i can't show you... but it's very, very cool.

the screen is a bit small, and the supported framerate (10) sucks, but it's still Video on a Music player.

lmao... I think its just another plot for technology capitalism. I am quite happy with my stereo @ home and CD player in car. Besides... I've already graduated so where would I use an Ipod?
