Big post counts may mean respect, but it also means you've devoted a lot of your time when you shouldn't have, and just too much of it. I laugh at people who have high post counts because they honestly don't have much else to do online, and possibly with their lives.

Big post counts doesn't mean respect some times though. Some people are real morons with big post counts.

Hah. It's obvious that cB is run in such a fashion that members with more posts are favored.

And if you really care to challenge my argument.. moderator applicants - they need a twelve-fifty minimum post count and an official member/designer status. I know of dedicated members without the post count and/or status who would thrive as staff - but they're not given the chance. So, tell me again. What's that you say? More posts typically means more respect? Yeah. Who didn't know that one.

I agree completely with Azarel.

There are members (I won't list obviously since that would be incredibly rude) who have upwards of 3000 posts who are nowhere near the maturity level to become a moderator.

Personally, I probably will never become a moderator. Why? Because most of my posts take a LOT of thought and time - I NEVER post just to be posting. I post a lot in LJ help, webdesign, and programming, and a lot of the problems people have take a LONG time to answer. If I don't know the answer to a question and no one else has answered, I research it so that I can make sure I give them a correct answer, not just a guess. Sometimes it takes 20+ minutes to finish one post. On top of that, LJ help, my most active forum, doesn't count towards your post count.

More on topic, I try not to bias against people who are new. If someone makes a mistake, it's not my place to yell at them for it. A link to the correct place/board guidelines (if need be) and "welcome to the boards :)" will do just fine. And if you'll notice, I don't have many posts at all, so I certainly hope people aren't aprehensive about me or that they don't give me less respect because I've only been here a month. (sorry, this is MUCH longer than I meant for it to be)

unless the 10,000 poster was stuck up about it
or the newbie was extremely annoying.

As you accumulate more posts, you gain more respect from teh members. If you're a newbie that double posts, no one knows... you could've signed up strictly for spamming. So as you become more well known through your posts, you gain a certain reputation (whether it be good or bad).

no. its the quality of their post, not quantity. I can spam this board to death but doubt everyone will respect me ;)

yeah. i think this is pretty true. I mean, more people will respect you if your posts really do mean something and aren't just spam. It also depends on what a person says in their posts, because some ppl sound like n00bs.

Sorry for spam:

yeah, i know what you mean. if their a newbie, then its okay for one person to remind them not to double post, but when 10 people start "yelling" @ the poor guy, then i think that those people should get in trouble for spamming. the person who called him out the first time for double posting already got the point across.

When I go to a new forum, sometimes I ask dumb questions and feel like a n00b because I have no idea what's going on but people respect me because I don't spam, I'm nice, and I don't break the rules purposly. I apologize if I accidently double post or if I do something else kind of n00bish

QUOTE(anovation @ Jul 20 2005, 1:31 AM)
no, because some people post over 100 posts a day. that doesnt make them better. i just look to see if their in a moderator position or not.

Most people who post 100 posts a day are spammers. I post alot, but that's because I really want to post and also no telling how many times I use the edit button (Lol, I just did)

Agreed. There are many people that would do very well as staff without the post counts nor official member/designer status, though it does measure dedication.

Well, I've been here since December 2003, with approximately 1,800 posts. I can totally say I'm no good at posting much (like some of the members here..it's scary), but I can confirm that MOST of my posts are up to quality. Even if they're one sentence or two. I don't post in just any topic, especially now, when I post once or twice a day. I have a feeling this is never going to change, and my PPD is never going to go higher than a 3.5 or 4 (it's been 3.2 for a while last time a checked).

Do I get respect? I don't really care. Who do I respect? More oftenly the people who are less well known (currently) or the people I've gotten to know when I used to be active. Maybe it's just me to go for the people less well known, from people here in cb to stars or people in society. I don't do it on purpose, but I believe they deserve more than they should.

i know it happens here and there are people that think more posts equals more respect.

personally, i don`t give people with more posts more respect. there are people on here that have a sh.itload of posts that have probably been here longer, but yet their posts have no substance to them. to me, respect is given to someone for overcoming or accomplishing something. accumulating thousands of posts on a webforum an accomplishment thus earning respect? *yawns*.

double posting is having 2 posts in a row, one right after another. it has nothing to do with time difference.
