This is NOT a debate topic, so please don't delete this mods...

My question is...

I recall reading in the bible one time regarding... A man being hit in the face, and he should fight back, but instead, he should turn the other cheek...

The moral was that one day, the person hitting him will learn his own wrong doings and we should not hit back...

Now the verse, page number, whatever? I'm clueless!

Thanks every one! happy.gif

Matthew 5:39, 2 years at Catholic school and I'm searching for a bible with a cigarette in my hand and not a clue of how to find a reference.
Its the one with 'an eye for an eye, etc.'

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:38:45 RSV)

I really do not know that many catholics that are that serious after the crappy 'education' they got from the church. I also think I go on about the church a bit too much; but then hey, I guess it just irks me...

Just for future reference, one website that can be used to search for a Bible passage when you know only a word or two, or the theme of the passage you're looking for, is at the following URL: http://www.btinternet.com/~markolus/search1.htm
The scripture that results is in the King James Version, unfortunately, but at least you can find the scripture and then look it up in a more modern translation that you may have at home. The trick is to use the most unusual word in the passage, like "cheek," rather than something like "hit," which, as you see from ConsumeMe's post, isn't even in the passage. The KJV translates the original Greek word as "strike," which is not a word we use much these days to mean "hit." You could also use the two-word phrase "the other," as in "the other cheek." That might bring a lot more references, but at least you wouldn't be having to look through the whole Bible. _smile.gif
