What is relevant is there is always the possibility that things, important things, were left out, taken out, for the sake of convenience.

but things have changed. when the original copy was written, it was absurd to think of any woman as an equal to man; those parts have been changed, has it not?

That depends on what Christians back then value as "important". Since Galileo and many other scientists and thinkers were silenced in different ways, yet effective all the same, I think we're clear on what the Church then think as important and unimportant.
As comparison, if the Church can kill and inconvenience those who either oppose Christianity or those who simply were minding their own business, who's to say it couldn't take things out during the translation, rewriting, copying of the Bible?

But anyway, I realize I'm off topic. I'm sure they did rephrase things to make it easier to understand. You're right of course.

agreed. they didnt change the bible so much as to twist around any ideas,  when they changed it, its to help people understand better what they were actually talking about.
*

no, they didn't. the bible was not re-written for understanding. it was re-written for political reasons.

the most common bible, the king james version, was written to help bring the irish under the anglican church.

Of course. What most people viewing this thread fail to understand is that those in power are well within their right to abuse it. I understand a language that is incomprehendable to all of you so I take the bible and write it for your understanding, however, I leave thigns out and I alter stories to my own liking to manipulate society.

What if The Bible had passages that promoted premarital sex and openly welcomed homosexuals? Would the moral majority of America still be against them? I think not.

An open minded debate should be looking at the topic with an unbiased mindset but arguing the topic through facts and personal beliefs. Instead, half the debatable topics are twice more argued by many of the Christian faith. For shame, pious bastuds continuing to put the religion in a bad light.

Obviously the title was changed.

That probably explains why its the version I most understand.

Happiness is God or God is happy? The more people try to come to peace with Christianity, the more unhappy they seem to get.

On the note that Hell is the absense of God - I just had to think about the people that don't believe God exists at all. How would they feel in Hell? Wouldn't it be better to just stick those people in a cage outside of the Golden Gates and let them watch God file paperwork all day?

Why would Hell be an absence of God when God is everywhere? huh.gif

and I found this somewhere on the net:

premise: God is the Author of everything.

premise: Evil is something.

conclusion: Therefore, God is the Author of evil.

the premise is that, rather than hell being a place, its a state of being, as is heaven

if you bring god into your slef, which only you can do (he wont force himself on you), then you have a loving, paternal relationship, which continues after death.

conversly, people swho dont do this, cannot become part fo the metaphorical kingdom, therefore sort of drift outside, in 'hell'

o rthatss the belief of many christians anyway

who said r.e. would never pay off

Just trying to answer some questions. Click the snapback image to read what the questions were.

* According to the Book of Genises, in the Bible, Satan - A member of the highest rank of angels, the archangels - proclaimed that he was better than God. As a result, he was thrown out of Heaven and started his own evil kingdom in Hell.

* According to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, God didn't prevent Satan from creating Hell, to torture people with bad deeds, because God wants to test man for various reasons usually dealing with his level of piety. It is a choice of mankind to do bad deeds and suffer in Hell for eternity, or to do good deeds to cherish eternal life with God. For example, the test of Adam and Eve in Genises.

* God is omnipresent (all present) between man and heaven. According to Christianity, Hell show the complete frustration and emptiness of life without God. Rather than a place, Hell indicates the state of those who freely and definitively separate themselves from God, the source of all life and joy.
