ok. i like the last word. you can have the bigger person who takes the high road award though, if you want it.

well, its an opinion realting to he topic, which is rap music. the conversation doesnt need to be restricted rigidly to exctly where it began... that's dull. saying you dont like the subject of a topic isnt off topic

You're funny, kid.

Back to the topic...

Pooh and Phonte of Little Brother have to be some of the most underappreciated and underrated emcess out right now. They could easily son most of the garbage out of the industry with some more exposure and recognition.

relevancy, right whistling.gif I like "Diamonds from Sierra Lione." That might be the end of my rap interests, though.

they are nothing special. they are mainly where they are because of soulful beats and "conscious" lyrics, not because of their lyrical talent

and i dont "shrug my shoulders to little brother"... i think they are DOPE.. not because of their lyricism.. because of 9th wonder killing fruity loops.. because of the soul.. because of the humor and because of phonte.. but i find it unfathomable how anybody can listne to little brother and be like.. DAMN THEY ARE SOME LYRICAL DUDES...

budden is actually lyrical and little brother is not...

do you even listen to lyrics? as an emcee i hope you can tell that little brother is lacking lyrically, and budden is kiling the english language

while little brother is more advanced than SOME mainstream acts, they lyricism is very basic, multis are very basic no more than 3 or 4 sylabbles, few metaphors or comparisons, and the same rhyme scheme throughout the whole song... big pooh even says himself that he is not nice... lol..

joe budden is the charles dickens to little brother's 5th grade student... he switches up to very complex rhyme schemes, slant rhyme, multis stretching to 5, 6 even 7 sylabbles, all while making it relate to eachother. wordplay, nameplay, comparisons, metaphors, similies, shit that i dont even know what its called, joe budden incoporates it in a way that all relates to the previous lines in the 16.. and he isnt even the best lyrically.. not even in my top 5.. he just understands how to use the different tools of english.. are there artists nice punchline wise? definately.. are there artists more lyrical? definately.. but if we combine all the attributes you want for a emcee (lyricism, charisma, emotion, flow, delivery, punchlines, storytelling, talking to the women, voice, versitility, being "real") i dont believe there is anybody more complete than regular joe... feel free to name someone you think is better and i will prove why he isnt

and i hope you arent saying that little brother is "nice" lyrically.. i mean i can literally name 100+ emcees that you and i both heard of that are better.. matter fact i could name 50 better than phonte and 50 better than pooh..

My breakdown on hiphop's complexity....

There are far better lyricists than Pooh, Phonte, Mos Def, Plug-1, Dove, etc. However, lyricism alone doesn't win the war. Take battle rappers for example; Canibus is ill in a battle but his albums put me to sleep after a few listens. Cam'Ron makes no sense with his made-up words, mysogynistic lyrics and "tomfoolery" but Purple Haze was that crack.

I respect Budden, don't get me wrong. I got MM2 as soon as it leaked. But I don't get anything from listening to it. Its tight, but nothing for me to break my neck over. I don't enjoy his shit enough to label anything he does a classic. Its almost like he's lacking something.

LB isn't perfect lyrically. Listening to them, I can't help but smile because I can relate to most of what they spit. 9th's style of production with FL and a keyboard is a trend that every broke producer is trying to follow. The concept of The Minstrel Show proved a damn good point about hiphop and the album was just overall enjoyable.

If we want to get into lyricism; I'd go with Twista hands down. However, I'm sure I'm not the only person who felt as though 'The Day After' was garbage; even with his lyrical talent.

Another thing you have to understand is that Budden's voice isn't enjoyable for everyone to listen. The raspiness to his voice sounds almost dissonat with his mixtape tracks because you hear a lot more of his voice thanks to his constant metaphors. What he says may be smooth, but I don't think his voice is. (The same goes with Pap. Dude gets annoying after a while).

In the end, I'd draft Saigon over Joey Jumpoff.

while there are certain parts of rap music that cannot be argued, such as the sylabbles in the words you rhyme, your ability to flow over a beat and catch the snare, and the consistency of your lyrics, there are also intangibles that differs from each listener, such as chrisma (some people might be turned off to LL Cool J because of his arrogance, some people might be attracted because of it), and voice. although joe budden sometimes sounds like hes talking through a fan, i realize that he f**ked up his vocal cords because of overwork and i think its tolerable.. he even addresses that in 10 minutes, "know what I'm sayin? // excuse my voice fans, that should be a sign that I identify with what I'm sayin".. and the "Def Jam Diss" on soul of a fighter mixtape... who do you think has the best rap voice in the industry? i think it has to be Royce Da 5'9" or AZ..

twista is definately not the best lyrically.. that was the first time i ever heard his name up there.. well i dont really listen to him but from the limited sample of what i heard i dont think he is.. i also don't think there is anybody more lyrical than Eminem, nor can i see anybody coming up in the near future that will be. i dont think eminem has fallen off as DJ said up there, he can still manslaughter a track whenever he feels to..

peace

Royce over AZ. AZ sounded like he was montone on AWOL. Royce is smooth over every track.

Twista's wordplay is lacking, but his ability to clearly spit as fast as he does is brilliant. Adrenaline Rush is a banger.

I still listen to Eminem's Infinite.

Joey Jumpoff gets his props, but because he's not that appealing he won't get put up on his pedestal. Though I do admit he's underappreciated. For all the cats feelin him, there's 3x that amount who don't think he's anything to worth talking about.

I don't know, as far as good consistent lyrics and good songs along with nice flow, I have to go with Busta Rhymes. I have a thing for fast rappers (no homo). For instance not only Busta but Bone thugs and Harmony and Twista also.

Another artist who may note be as great of a lyricist as he used to be but makes good songs that I can workout to is 50 cent. Hate him or love him, you can't denie the fact the he makes hit music. What he lacks in lyrics he makes up for with good hooks and a great voice. He doesn't as I say try to be the AND 1 show (advanced) he sticks to the fundamentals. Not knocking any rappers, I respect a man's hustle, and I try to keep a open mind about the hip hop I listen to. For instance you could say in Hip Hop music their is a battle of ignorance vs intellect, but me on the other hand I look at what some may call a disgrace to rap as something different. Psychologically speaking some may studio rap but some of these guys actually experience this a violent life first hand. So what do you think these guys are going to rap about. Most individuals in that environment will be caught up in the type of life as a mean of survivals, while few will take a different route. With that being sad in comparison a majority of the rap artist are going to rap and promote what they lived through because they really don't know any better while those few others only rap about what they lived but from a different and non promoting manner.

So who is my sickest rapper? Well anyone who picks up a mic and has the dream and the passion to want to further better themselves whether it be for the money , the fame, or just to get their voice heard. If you pick up a mic, no matter how wack you may be, I admire your will and courage, so everyone to me is a sick rapper, no matter how good or bad they may be.
