I'm new to xanga but I really like it. I want to make my own skin. And I just signed up for a web class. My teacher is teaching us the basics right now but he said one of the best ways to learn is by looking at what other people do. I tried making a skin from that tutorial but it didn’t come out so well. I thought maybe if I looked at what other people make maybe that would be a good way to learn. But I was wondering if this is considered jocking? I mean if I wanted to use someone’s code as an example is that wrong? I wouldn't be using their graphics but more just how they organize their code and all the different kinds of code you can use. Kind of like I'd be borrowing their style sheet. I wouldn’t be using any of their graphics or claiming any of anyone’s work as my own. Am I allowed to do this or do people not like it? I'm totally for giving everyone their credit and I would if I ever used anything, but do I have to ask for their permission or anything before I can? I hope no one gets mad which is why I'm asking first.

well if you want a xanga stylesheet, just go here:

it basically has most of the things you'll need.

I think it would be a good idea to ask first.

Giving credit isn't good enough. You need to ask the person first before using their code.

If it is THEIR CODE, as in, the coded it from scratch, no copying or pasting, and it's unique to their page, then ask. If it's more generic and a lot of people have it, i don't think they would mind. you have an example of the code your looking at?

what exactly are your probs with skin making????

if it's an imagemapping issue, just ask or search the scripts forum or tutorials forum....if it's a skin making issue just be very specific and i'm sure someone around here can help.

u should ask before borrowing code unless u see a lot of tages that say "code by createblog" or something like that. if u see alot of those tags, then it is probably safe to go ahead and take the code. make sure to change the code to your own specs and give credit for any original code on the skin....

ps- look at scripts section and just mess with code. the easiest way to learn is by doing. biggrin.gif

i think as long as you ask them and give them credit it should be fine, i mean come on no one would like seeing their layout format with credit on it, but not knowing you used it ermm.gif

Well if you KNOW the code is everywhere and can be found on the internet with a simple google such as "splash screen" etc... that means it's quite common and it doesn't really matter as long as you don't use the same image..

Although technically everything is copyrighted on the internet =O
