Lucky Paper Stars by Rocalyn Kola Colassa (rockacola) Title Description: Paper stars are the symbol of luck, and in this story, paper stars, not only represent luck, it also represents love. Main Characters: Melanie Gibson (Mel)- a girl who treats love seriously, boyfriend is Nigel, very intellegent and best friend is Christie Nigel Hinson- a guy who flirts around the school all the time, girlfriend is Mel, very good at hiding and keeping secrets, secretly in love with Christie Eric Ford- a guy who is new to school, first met Mel and has a crush on her Christie Hunter- a girl who is popular at school, secretly in love with Nigel Esther Garfield- a girl whose best friends are Mel, and Christie, knows the secret between Christie and Nigel, Alex's girlfriend Alexander Crane (Alex)- Esther's boyfriend Story: On a February afternoon, Mel and Nigel, the couples, saw each other in the campus hallway. "Hey Nigel!" Melanie yelled. "Oh, hey sweetie," Nigel said, speaking uncomfortably. "Oh no, the bell is going to ring in about a minute, I got to go to my chemistry class, see you later, Nigel." "Bye, sweetie." "Wait, Nigel." "What?" "What class are you going to?" "I have a break next period." "Oh ok, see you." "Bye." While Mel is walking down in the hallway, she saw Christie. "Christie!" Mel screamed. "Hey buddy, stop screeching, that is so horrible," Christie complained. "Oh sorry." "It's OK." "What class are you going to next?" "It is my break time next." The bell rang. "Mel, go to your next class or you will be late," Christie reminded. "Oh yeah, bye!" Mel said. "Bye Mel!" After Mel left, Christie headed towards Nigel. "My dear Nigel!" Christie screamed and hugged Nigel. "My honey Christie!" Nigel shouted back. "Let's have lunch together!" Christie suggested. "Let's go then," Nigel replied. In Mel's chemistry class, Mr. Jackson, the teacher, introduced a new student to the class. "Hello everybody, I want to introduce our new student, Eric, to our class, let's welcome him," Mr. Jackson announced. "Hi," Eric said. "Oh no, the seat next to me is the only empty seat left, that means I have to sit next to him, but he does not look like that kind of people, so I don't really have to worry about," Mel thought. "Mr. Jackson, where do I sit?" Eric asked. "Oh, I forgot to tell you where you sit," Mr. Jackson said, "You will sit next to Melanie, raise your hand, Melanie, so Eric can see where you are." Mel raised her hand and Eric sat next to her. "Hi Eric, nice to meet you. My name is Melanie, you can call me Mel." Mel introduced herself to Eric. "Hi Mel, my name is Eric!" Eric said, sounded enthuastic. "Okay, let's start on our chemistry lesson," Mr. Jackson said. "Excuse me, Mel, do you know where is the room for the Spanish class?" Eric asked. "Can I see you schedule, please, so I could help you?" Mel said, politely. "Of course, Mel!" Eric responded quickly. "Hey Eric! You have exactly the same classes as me, and the same break too! Maybe I can tell you more about our school at break time today!" Mel said. "Thanks, Mel, you are a nice girl," Eric said. "Break is coming after this class, so walk with me in the break, okay?" Mel said. "OK!" Eric shouted. After chemistry, Mel and Eric walked to the food court. "Hey Eric, let's eat and discuss together!" Mel suggested. "Sure. Why not?" Eric replied. Mel and Eric bought their food and start discussing about the campus. Mel helped Eric a lot. "Thank you, Mel." Eric said. "You are welcome," Mel replied. While Eric and Mel were talking, Mel saw her friend, Esther, walking towards the food court. "Esther!" Mel shouted. "Oh Melanie!" Esther said. "Come sit here!" Mel said. "Nah, it is not my break time, I am just passing through here." Esther replied. "Oh, okay, see you later," Mel said, disappointed. "Bye Mel!" Esther left. "I wonder why she is like that these days, she always leaves right after I said hi to her and she has the same break as my so she is lying, probably she knows some secrets about me," Mel questioned. "Maybe she did something bad to you and she feels sorry for you, I have no idea, but I doubt that it is related to you," Eric explained. Eric and Mel continued with their discussion about the campus for weeks, and they became good friends, eventually, Eric had a crush on Mel due to her caring to him. One day, Eric and Mel's chemistry class (the time when Nigel and Christie had their break time for dating in the food court) was doing a survey asking students to answer some questions. "Boys and girls, get a partner first before I continue with the explanation," Mr. Jackson said. "Want to be my partner, Eric?" Mel asked. "Sure," Eric replied. The students got in pairs already, and Mr. Jackson was giving out directions. "Now I will assign which area would you take the survey in, Melanie and Eric, go to the food court..." Mr. Jackson said. "Let's go to the food court then," Mel suggested. "OK," Eric said. At the food court, Mel saw Nigel gave Christie the jar of paper stars which Mel folded and gave to Nigel last week, Mel finally found out the relationship between Nigel and Christie. "Nigel, are you with Christie?" Mel cried. "Yeah, so what? I love her so much so I gave her the jar of paper stars, she loves me too! We are couples that love each other!" Nigel said. "Christie, you and I are best friends, but how can you..." Mel said with sadness. "Shut up, you...Nigel doesn't love you anymore, so stay away! He is not going to be your Valentines' dance partner too!" Christie yelled. She dropped her stuff, slapped Nigel, with tears on her eyes, shouted, "You are I will break up!" She turned her head to Christie, "Christie, I am so disappointed at you," and she ran away, crying. Eric picked up her stuff and caught up with her, he gave Mel a tissue, "Use the tissue, Mel. I feel sorry for you." "Thanks," Mel said. Mel dried her eyes and continued surveying students with Eric. They saw Esther while walking back to the classroom. "Hey, Mel, is that girl your friend? She looks like the one who said hi to you last time at break time," Eric said. "She is my friend, her name is Esther, hey, you have good memory," "Oh really? Thanks!" "Esther!" Mel shouted. "Hey! I got to go, bye!" Esther replied. "Wait, Esther!" Mel yelled. "What?" Esther said, with confusion. "Tell me the truth, please," Mel pleaded. "I know that Christie is with Nigel for a long time already, and I am sorry that I didn't tell this to you, I am really sorry," Esther sighed. "It's OK, girl," Mel said. "Thanks for your forgiveness, Mel," Esther said. "Bye, Esther," Mel said. "Bye," Esther said. A while after Esther left, the announcement from the speakers started. "Oh, Eric, it is time for announcement time, listen carefully," Mel said. "The Valentines' Dance is coming up next Friday, you need to wear formal clothes, and you are required to have a dance partner, or else you can't go to the dance," the principal announced. "Oh, I guess I can't go to the dance, I broke up with Nigel," Mel murmured. Eric heard Mel's murmur but he didn't say a word. Two days before the dance, Mel and Eric were talking happily each other and suddenly some gangsters with weapons came and stole Mel's purse. "Hey, my purse!" Mel shouted, and ran to catch the thieves. "I will get them, wait, Mel," Eric said, and rushed to the thieves and started fighting. "No, come back, Eric, that is dangerous! They have weapons!" Mel shouted, tried to stop the fight. Eric got the purse back, however, injured. "I should not let you do that, Eric, I am sorry," Mel said. "It's OK, don't worry," Eric replied. "But you are injured..." "It is just a little cut, not a big matter, I will wrap my wound later," "Why would you just to get my purse and get your body injured? You could just leave the purse alone..." "Um..." "Tell me!" "I actually has a crush on you, do you want to be my girlfriend?" "Did I do something that makes you to misunderstand it?" Mel said, started crying. "Tell me, Eric!" "I am going to say sorry to you if that is the fact!" "No, it is not your fault, Mel..." "I am sorry..." Mel ran away, with tears on her face. On the day before the dance, at break time, Mel and Eric finally started talking to each other. "I am sorry about what happened yesterday," Mel apologized. "It's OK," Eric said, taking a jar of paper stars and gave it to Mel. "Here is your gift, I folded the stars for weeks already," Eric said. "Oh, thank you very much..." Mel said, feeling extremely impressed, with tears on her face. "You are welcome," Eric replied. "Um...can you be my boyfriend?" Mel said, shyly. "Then can you be my partner for the Valentines' dance?" Eric asked. "Sure!" Eric and Mel said together, smiling. At the night of February 14th, it was the Valentines' dance, Mel got dressed up and ready to go. When Mel arrived, she saw Eric there. "Hey Eric, you are early!" Mel said. "That is a guy's responsibility to wait for a girl at a date, but it is a date even though it sounds more like a dance, haha," Eric laughed. There was an announcement from the dance commissioner. "Let's get the dance started! You all are in the ballot of the best couples of our school! So we are going to have the voting at the end of the dance!" the dance commissioner announced. "Oh Eric, both of us are in the ballots!" Mel exclamed. "Wow!" Eric said in amazement. "Hey, let's dance!" "OK, Eric!" While Eric and Mel are dancing, they saw Christie and Nigel. "Hi Christie, hi Nigel," Mel said solumnly. "Hi Melanie, hi Eric," Christie said. "Hi," Nigel said, without any feelings. "Hi, Nigel," Eric said. "We got to dance now, bye," Mel said. "Bye," Christie said. A while after, Mel saw Esther and Alexander dancing together. "Hey Esther, hey Alex," Mel said. "Hi Mel," Esther said. Alex saw Eric, "Hi, and your name is..." "Oh, my name is Eric, nice to meet you," Eric introduced himself. "Hi, my name is Alexander, you can call me Alex." Alex said. "Hi Alex," Eric said. "We have to dance in this beautiful environment, so dance, bye!" Esther said. "Bye, Esther and Alex!" Eric and Mel said. At the end of the dance, an announcement from the dance commissioner announced, "This is time for us to vote for the best couple of the dance! Each couple will get a ballot and they can't vote for themselves! We can track it!" The dance commissioner gave all the couples ballots, including Mel and Eric, Christie and Nigel, and Esther and Alex. "Who should we vote for, Eric?" Mel asked. "Maybe Esther or Christie, it's up to you," Eric answered. "OK, we will just vote for Esther and Alex then." Mel decided and bubbled the ballot. At the same time, Christie and Nigel, and also Esther and Alex, voted on Mel and Eric for the best couple. An announcement came, "Now we got the results of the best couple! Congratulate Melanie and Eric!" Mel screamed, "Oh my god, Eric, we made it!" Eric smiled, "Let's go on the stage and get the award!" Mel and Eric went on the stage and received the award. "Thank you!" Mel and Eric said, smiling at each other. "Let's have a great hug and kiss to end this dance, right, students?" the dance commissioner asked the other students. "Of course!" the students shouted. Mel and Eric, feeling embarrassed, kissed and hugged each other. Everyone applaused and screamed, "Woo!" Back to school, all the students described Mel and Eric about the best couples. Many years later, after college, Mel and Eric are still couples, and eventually they got married and lived happily ever after. However Nigel and Christie did get married but not long after they divorced, and Esther and Alex got married too but they divorced also. They all get married on the same day for a special memory. "Alexander Crane, do you want to marry Esther Garfield as your legal wife?" the priest said. "I do," Alex said. "Esther Garfield, do you want to marry Alexander Crane as your legal husband?" the priest said. "I do," Esther said, and they both kissed each other. "Nigel Hinson, do you want to marry Christie Hunter as your legal wife?" the priest said. "I do," Nigel said. "Christie Hunter, do you want to marry Nigel Hinson as your legal husband?" the priest said. "I do," Christie said, and they both kissed each other. "Eric Ford, do you want to marry Melanie Gibson as your legal wife?" the priest said. "I do," Eric said, confidently. "Melanie Gibson, do you want to marry Eric Ford as your legal husband?" the priest said. "I do," Mel said, and they both kissed each other.
