okay, so new york kicked ass
but ill spare you the fun bits and talk about the band part
which did not kick so much ass.
at all.

my band class (concert and symphonic combined) competed in division 4, and got first place with an excellent, which is goodish, yet just plain sad

the other class was in the top class, division 6, and i think got a superior but came in second

its funny to watch the difference in mentalities.

we won and were in shock, so only some stoood up and the rest gaped (they hadnt mentioned the excellent yet at that point)

the windsymphony got second and no one even bothered standing up because we were all in shock that they didnt win.

if i hadnt been a strange combonation of amzed, relieved, disappointed, shocked, and mad that my camera wouldnt work, id have found it funny

mmm, indeed. but thank you, even though it wasnt fantastic, it was just almost fantastic. it was fantastic until we found out we won with an excellent with which was pathetic

also, if you go north, people shouldnt be rednecks. i was getting major flashbacks from the rome competition (shudders)

Wow...that is pretty shocking. It's not all that bad though. At least you had fun on the trip. We have completely no festival the time we travel to San Diego...only clinic. Which is pretty horrible, by the way, provided some people don't practice the piece of music that is GRADE FIVE LITERATURE. You cannot go through a piece grade 5 without practicing! If the trombones don't pass the part our band director is going to hear on Monday, then we're not playing the piece this year. Most likely, it would go to the top band next year.

If we throw it out...what are we going to clinic on? Some stinky piece of music that we can manage to learn in 3 days? Uh...excuse me. 2.5 days.

If we don't throw it out...I still think we pretty much suck. Unless the whole band suddenly practices and we make major improvements. I doubt it.

yeah, the competition was basically so that bands could go to new york and get as many awards as possible. they even gave out soloist awards.

we play grade 4 and 5, i think, but most of the band doesnt practice, which is why we never know how well badly were going to do, because everyone waits until the last possible second to improve, and then its too late. thats why the bands were so much better last year. people actually practiced. the freshmen actually cared about more than being cool and smoking and then bragging about it (sorry, off topic, but someone pissed me off today). but if they would stop destorying their minds and lungs for an hour a day, we could be good.

good luck to you anyway. i hope people can pull it off ermm.gif thumbsup.gif

But eventually, a non-bandgeek would say it.

Teal clarinet?! blink.gif

Well there was this guy in my band class that had a blue mouthpiece. mellow.gif And when my BD took a look at it, the mouthpiece was all warped up because of the heat produced..... but yea, colored mouthpieces that are plastic is bad... mellow.gif

I don't think our band is mature enough for grade 5 literature. The people have low attention span -_-. Yesterday, our band director got really mad at "us." He kept stopping, lecturing, getting mad, threatening...basically using many strategies to try to keep us going. I could tell he had a very frustrating time (why...who wouldn't?). Well...for some ODD reason, he didn't throw the piece of music out. I guess it would have been too late before the clinic, so yeah. I don't know...I'd rather leave it for next year in the top band, because I know some people in the band who will never practice or concentrate enough for a 7 minute piece of music.

Hm... rolleyes.gif I'm not trying to protect the freshmen just because I am one...but this year's freshmen seem pretty good. Dude, most of the people that don't care as much are the upperclassmen. I really don't know...this is really the worst time of the year since third quarter. It's like the middle of nowhere, and summer is coming up so soon that people are already getting ready for the break. It's really sad...

Haha, that looks so cool. That reminds me of a time when our band director was writing on the board and he had the eraser on his hands...then he touched his face. It was sooo funny...all the ink got on his face and all of us were laughing at him while he was being so serious. He smiled while other people took pics. I wish I had a camera with me =/.

OH YEAH, I got a new fluteee! It sounds SO much better, I swear. A lot better. Soooo much better. I love my flute. Oh geez. My private lesson teacher kept on congratulating me, and telling how much of an "improvement" it was.

Awesomeee. I love my flute. Practicing makes me happy. It's one of those things that could lift my spirit up even if I was depressed or stressed.

UH, what the heck, this fell into 4th page.

So I went on my band trip...and I was dreading it at first, but it turned out to be partly fun. I mean...I can't say it was absolutely fun, because I did encounter some problems and all, but I did have fun!

So, the band part of it all. We went to the clinic at Chapman University. First of all, the rehearsal room looked AMAZING. Very pretty interior design, and it had a nice view too! The director there was awesome. Always good to have better technique in breathing. Our first chair flute player doesn't breathe very well, I can tell.

But anyway, it made us sound a LOT better!! The time went by too quickly, and we had to leave already. I loved him though. Awesome guy.

If you want to read about my trip without the band part, go to my xanga.
