Hm, I was wondering. Instead of making a topic about it. I was wondering when you guys mention second chair, first chair. What's so good about what chairs your sitting on. Does it matter which chair you get to sit at? I mean my friends always get excited when they get to sit in the first chair. I'm just like "Uhh, okay. You're very weird." And I thought it was just her, but I hear people saying "I'm in the second chair" wow... kinda surprising. So why is it so special for you guys?

Well I was a band kid...til I graduated :D but I'm still a bandie at heart.

Name: Danelle (call me dee)
School: Richardson High School
Loc: Richardson Texas
Instrument: Flute n Piccolo (I was awesome at it too :D) first chair for 8 years.
I dont have aim so...yeah.

oh...and non band kid...chairs are order of playing ability. For example:

there are 7 flutes. Some are good, some are bad. they hand out a piece of music, and u have to learn it, and play it for a chair test for example. The test comes and then the director (the guy with the wand?) decides who played best and puts them first, and them goes in order from there to the worst. First chair means the best. And the reason they have chairs is not only for a grade, but when u get a piece of music, there may be two different melodies the flutes have to play. so they split it first part and second part. Or however many different parts there are. Usually first part is harder, so those sitting in the higher chairs, play the first part. There.

lol I'm last chair in freshman band because I can't play for the directors during auditions. But I end up getting all A's on my tape tests while the other two girls in my section get all C's. Kind of tells you something.

Anyway, is it considered advertisement if I show my Marching Band performance? mellow.gif

Yeah, I'm a huge band geek. Hello everyone.

Name = Becca
Aim = Din Coire
State= Florida
School= Bay High School
Instrumet = Well, I play a lot of them, but trumpet is my true love (been playing for around 8 years)

At the moment I'm really excited. ^^ Whee! Tomorrow I am get to find out if our BD will let me play horn for the march we are playing at a competition. We only have two horns, and he has the the other first trumpet (I'm first chair, he's second) playing horn part on trumpet anyway. So, it was fun playing horn in practice today.

today we had a sub, so we had students conducting, and two of them did ok, but the other not so well. the last one was especially impressive since he lost his voice and couldt talk. but for some reason, all these people were switiching instruments. a tuba player who used to play sax played sax, a former trumpet player reverted back while the first chair trumpet took his place at baritone, and maybe more, so all in all it was quite odd

i had a horrible sectional, I'm a freshman, I was told to led the section by my BD. So this sophmore who didn't make symphonic band was like b*tching to me after about how she was supposed to be in the band, but like it was because her flute was broken and stuff. so i was just like, "first of all you had two months to get it fixed, you didn't practice until the day before try outs and now you're complain!?!?" And now she thinks i'm being egotistic! Like I always check after school to see who left their cases for my teacher, so he would know who practices. Hers is always left there, and I know she doesn't have a second flute at home, because she isn't ont he list. SO now i'm mad due to her b*tchin`

uck, thats stupid. this one girl is all resentful of me now, because i got moved up to symphonic second semester and shes still going to be in concert another year. but i mean, its good that i improved. shes really bad. if she practiced more, maybe she could too. at least she didnt bitch at me. she knows i have nothing to do with it. i feel bad for her though.

so they actually check your cases? im always afraid of that, but they dont, becuase i leave after the BD half the time

Welll during concert band, my teacher likes to know who actually takes they're time to rehersal out of school, so he makes those with those that have another one at home bring it to school and be added to the list, than choses people to check afterschool for cases, and sometimes he locks the storage room to see who didn't take theirs home . nice..huh?
