I like the iPod. It's easy to use and small. Lightweight and durable. It has tons of accessories and it's easy to get music onto it. I have an iPod shuffle. I just don't think that the frills are necessary, really. Sure, the Zen is nice, but to me, it just isn't necessary. I don't need to watch shows or anything like that on my mp3 player...I just want to listen to music. I could care less about having a color screen as well.....

Then, the Creative Zen Xtra is right for you. It's cheaper than the iPod, and is as simple. And it has a removable Li-Ion battery! |

They are worthless, get a zen micro, or vision, or h320, or h10. Hell, even rio karma or the iaudio x5. Just don't waste your time with this.

QUOTE(ThunderEvermore @ Aug 29 2005, 10:34 AM) The only thing I like on the ipod is that it has a color screen, which, as far as I know, is fairly original among MP3 players. But Ive posted in countless threads how I want a Zen Vision. An extra 100bucks, an extra 10 gigs (Not as much as the 60 gig, I know, but I dont need that much space) and i can put my eps of Red Vs Blue or any other show I want and still have room for all 130 some of my CDs. ahh, ignorance strikes again. over a year ago, iriver released the H300 series. color screen. picutre viewing. video support. text viewing. FM. radio. recording from internal microphone. Recording from line in/external microphone. recording from FM. radio. skinnable graphical interface. you know what ipod people said then? "it's a music player- i don't need color" "i want mine to just play music, i don't need video" "i don't need to record or use the radio" then when apple comes out with the color ipod, you have ipod peopel screaming "apple is so innovative! they have color screens! you can search by artist (which is a creative copyrighted thing)" "i wish apple would release a video ipod." and... "i love this ipod accesory. it lets me listen to radio and record from the internal microphone" tell me you like ipod because it looks good. tell me you like ipod because of the advertising. tell me you like ipod because of it's size. tell me you like the ipod because of the scroll wheel. don't tell me ipod is innovative, original, creative, trendsetting, or anything. the only innovative thing apple has done is the scroll wheel (which i personally hate), and the advertising. |

I don't think you give the iPod enough credit. It was the first successful hard drive-based iPod, after all. It is fairly innovative, given that many of the features and design interfaces first debuted on the iPod have shown up on other players as well. The iPod is a good MP3 player. Maybe some people might have other tastes, but the ignorance is in claiming that there's nothing new or original about the iPod. |

its only succesful because it became a trend. people didnt know about other mp3 players out there. i know i didnt consider buying an mp3 player before i found out about an ipod. that was like one of the first mp3 [players i have ever heard of.
and the ipod does have a lot of support. from countless artists putting it into their music videos. Hp designing a printable tatoo for the ipod. the numerous clothes book bags jeans hoddies, that had an extra pocket for the ipod. if somany people iddnt buy the ipod, people didnt know about its problems, they would of just overlooked the problems with the ipod. ipod was very hip and thats basically why people didnt know about the iriver. but look at it. the reason why you guys have an iriver cause you thought it through better and didnt decide to get ipods. so basically the ipod helped you figure out that it wasnt the only solution to buying an mp3 player. so you bought the iriver or watever other mp3 that is better than the ipod. |

The engineering of the iPod itself was innovative. Prior to the iPod, hard drive-based MP3 players (and most MP3 players) were bulky, and didn't have tremendously great battery life. With the iPod, that changed--Apple introduced an elegantly designed, light, small MP3 player with relatively good battery life (for the time). Unlike existing MP3 players, which utilized USB 1.1, it utilized Firewire, which introduced faster transfer rates and the ability to charge over the cable. Furthermore, it allowed for formats other than merely MPEG-3. Apple also designed the player to hold contacts and calendars, as well as function as a hard drive (which existing players did not do).
From an engineering perspective, the iPod was pretty clever. It utilized a 32MB RAM chip to pre-load songs and thus spin down the hard drive, resulting in an energy-efficient player that didn't skip. Finally, with iPod, Apple introduced the iTunes Music Store, the first ala carte, non-subscription music service, which is a tremendously good idea. From the perspective of now, compared to other players, the iPod might not be anything incredibly unique (although I would still attest to the fact that it is one kick-ass MP3 player); however, you can't deny that many of the features found in MP3 players now did in fact debut on the iPod and were brought to the market by Apple, or at least popularized by Apple; and an invention is nothing unless it can be successfully marketed. |

But people act as if the iPod is the only mp3 out there. Also it does have many prblems. They are now switching hard drives to the samsung non mobing parts one, so it uses less battery and won't break as easily. But it still will break. In a short time. It still sucks. |

What are you smoking? You can't have a hard drive with non-moving parts. And the iPod hard drives aren't exactly known for breaking. |

^ yea, it's the rio karma that has the hard drive bad rep.
i think he's reffering to the switch to flash memory in ipod minis. which isn't a big jump in creativity, but it is a good idea. hopefully samsung will sell flash mem. at that cheap of a price to other companies so they can make flash mem. versions of like, the h10, and the new iriver touch thing comming out. |

Yeah, the Mini's. But another bad thing about the ipods, are that you can't replace the hard drives yourselves. Whereas on other mp3's you can. |

I personally dislike iPods since there are much better systems out there, it's a decent player, but you can get something at a bit of a higher class for a minor price increase.
Overall iPod is pretty good, although there are much better systems out there... Do your research... |

Too expensive and overrated. It would be nice to have an iPod, but I personally don't think they're necessary. It's just like .. taking laziness to a new level.

How is it taking laziness to a new level? When you buy a 72 cd case and fill it up within a month of the purchase (discluding old unwanted cds), it's only practical to be able to store music all in one place

So, please do not attempt to belittle my intelligence again. Back on track, the ipod has its high points I suppose, and yes it was what brought mp3 players into the light, but that hardly makes it the best out there as many state. Theres so many more functions for the same or less price that you can get from other companies. And I think thats the main argument. Id love to have something with an FM tuner, and so I go somewhere else. I want to have a lower price tag, I go somewhere else. I want to have a mic, I go somewhere else. Its simple as that. |

then please explain fairly original to me. But the iRiver H300 was the first MP3 player to feature color screen. ..... I did say "As far as I know". Meaning I didnt know about the H300, I didnt realize that the color screen came before the iPod. |
