Where should we draw the line?

What I'm really trying to ask is why do other countries get to watch porn on cable more freely than we do. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Haha. tongue.gif

But seriously....it's in our television, our music, textbooks and many forms of media. Is censorship hiding our true feelings and most of all the truth? Is it limiting us?

Show me whatcha got.

When I listen to music on the radio, I expect to hear every last cuss word. I don't want to listen to something that's bleeped out every other word. Profanity isn't even that much of a problem.

Yeah, I know. I listen to rap music and it pisses me off when you can't even enjoy the song cuz there's blanks where the cussing would be. I bought an edited cd on accident one time and it pissed me the hell off. I couldn't return it cuz I had already opened the case which blew so much donkey balls.

I just think that it's too late to do anything about it now. It shouldn't be like this. Julia - about the government...sometimes it's good to be ignorant; therefore, you wouldn't be able to interfere with anything. Although, it is nice to know everything. Sometimes it's best not to. Think about it as parents and a small child. We'd be the small children, our parents taking care of us, and being able to since we don't question their authority. Besides, I thought you were liberal - wouldn't you be in support of the government doing more? tongue.gif

I think censorship is just fine the way it is... there's not too much, or too little.

As for rap songs that has curse words in them, I for once, am glad that they are censored. Imagine a school bus of kindergardeners hearing that kind of language on the radio. I wouldn't be surprised if they come home and tell their mothers "fcuk that crap, I don't like to clean my room, why don't you go shake some bottay". Okay, that was way off... but my little 5 year old cousin called her Dad bastard because that's something she heard on a TV show. I know not all kids will copy profanities, but kids don't know the meaning of what they say a lot of times..

Not to say that I don't like rap... I like listening to eminem by myself in the car............................... off topic.. sorry.

Does censoring swear words actually help? I mean if I write the word "f***" here, with all but the first letter censored, people would still know what the whole word is

You know I've thought the exact same thing so many times!!!! I could sit here and put just one letter from a cussword and then a bunch of asterisks after it and you could tell me what every word I put was. Just like you did...

well, some people, like me, prefer not to hear a song with 65% of curse words.

It's lame, I agree, but I wouldn't want my [imaginary] kids comming home to me with that kind of language.

that kind of language is everywhere... You could be shopping at Wal-mart and your child could pick up that kind of language... and if that's big of an issue.. then just don't let your child listen to the radio.. Resort to sing-along cds...
I'm actually okay with how censoring is currently, though.

Aha, I think my cousin would beat me into a pulb if I make her listen to sing-alongs... she's too cool for that.

That language is everywhere, but why is it everywhere? Because people think that it's okay to use them. Why do they think so? Because it's on the Radio, it's on TV, it's on the internet... so it must be perfectly fine.

I hear stuff walking into a decent restaurant too... so I know what you're talking about...

Yea, censorship is okay right now. Too much would be annoying, but too little could make everyone worse off.

because we are sick and in love with the perversions of porn, and even the simple perversions we see on tv, like beyonce doing her thing and internationally known hiphop groups getting down with their girls... we have to resort what we shouldve never resorted to: censorship.

remember back in the 50s, the 30's, 20's... girls had to wear long skirts, couldnt show their shoulders, legs, whatnot. as time progresses, we get so use to it, and then we move on by showing more skin... cuz the world is just perverted. mellow.gif

I HATE censorship.....I saw a music video on MTV, 50cent - PIMP, and most of the song has f*** . When they sensored it, they cut the sound so all I heard was a part of the song and then a blank and then a part of a song and then a blank...ITZ SOOO ANNOYING......It screws up the whole song

Many people say it should be sensored because of little kids......Just because of those little kids the FCC (or w/e ppl who decide wut is allowed on tv) block all the good stuff from us good people.

I think censorship is good, unless it goes too far. Swears are okay to censor, but sometimes they censor too much.

example:

Excerpt from My Band by D-12

All the chicks start yellin', all the hot babes
Throw their bras and their shirts and their panties on stage

They would censor bras and panties. I think that's when it gets too far.

if the majority of people that speak up about cenorship in governement ask for it, they'll get what they want.

to me, censorship is just fine were its at...except for the whole "violence is better then nudity".

Nudity first.

Violance later.

Uh, that's the thing, you considered yourself 'good' because you already know the difference between right and wrong.

Many children have yet to know what is right and wrong, and they are the ones who can be swayed by TV/music idols.

You can listen to curse words and know not to use them inappropriately, but these kids, they won't know what to say or what not to say. That's why it's so important to keep these censors, in my opinion.

Censorship outside in public makes sense, but its really not necessary. any TV station with half a brain knows that having disagreeable content will deter a certain target audience and avoid it. i do, however, condemn censorship of private intellectual property, such as one of michael moore's videos.

but is it the censor's fault or the artist's fault? should the artist be cursing?

yes but kids who haven't been exposed to the word wouldn't know how to fill in the blank.

they're trying to shield the kids from bad words so that they grow up to be good people.

The government doesn't force walmart to not carry stickered CDs, that's walmart's choice. As for the rest....too many catholics in high positions?

Censorship has gone way overboard here in Asia.

In China, a gangster movie, Jiang Hu, was banned because it was a gangster movie and in the end, there were no police to take down the bad guys.

In China, Faye Wong's album was banned because one of her song lyrics contained the word 'cocaine'. She was singing about how love was addicted like cocaine in one song and the entire album gets banned.

In Malaysia, all major movies relating to Christianity/Jesus were banned. The Passion Of Christ, that Moses movie, every one of them. Simply because Malaysia's main race are Malays, who are Muslims and they fear that those movies might effect the Muslims.

I think it's stupid. These censorship boards are censoring things that don't really harm, but they allow worst things to pass through the censorship board.

In Asia, the censorship boards definitely need to 'chill'.

Japan doesn't have much censorship (except in porn movies). The only movie that had bits cut out was Pearl Harbor and I guess that's fair enough. I've heard people say "f*ck" in daytime Japanese TV - well it's probably because no one would understand anyway. They're becoming a bit stricter on film ratings - I used to be able to walk into any movie regardless of whether it was Rated-R in the States or not, but I think they've started to have restrictions now.
