QUOTE(waccoon @ Dec 25 2004, 10:49 AM) Yay for the most materialistic day of the year. This is by far the stupidest time of year. How did Christmas come to trading gifts? Christmas was about celebrating the birth of Christ, no? Why is this day only about exchanging gifts? Anyways, merry f*cking christmas. Don't get run over. There's your f**king Christmas spirit, Santa. Bite me. maybe if you change your f**kin attitude.. you might appreciate the joy of giving... oh yeah, and merry christmas |

QUOTE(wonmin @ Dec 26 2004, 1:59 AM) maybe if you change your f**kin attitude.. you might appreciate the joy of giving... oh yeah, and merry christmas The joy of giving? Is that what Christmas is about? Giving? What about the people that have nothing to give? What can they give? Love? Are you honestly satisfied with love as a gift? That question was to you, personally. Are you satisfied when you recieve NOTHING but love on Christmas? |

I think its more about giving to others, especially those less fortunate than you. Obviously its been exploited by the free market but that is unavoidable. Rather than sitting at home and wishing people a "merry f*cking christmas", you should go volunteer at a homeless shelter or donate to a charity. |

There aren't any homeless shelters or any humanitarian-worthy causes that I can attend because my mother wouldn't allow it. If I could, I would. I have donated some of my books to the children's charity, but I honestly do not have anything to give them. Money? I don't have much of that. Time? I'd like to, but I can't. |

QUOTE(kevinma03 @ Dec 26 2004, 3:00 AM) Your mom doesn't care about your future? She doesn't believe me when I say they're a significant factor when it comes to college admissions. My schedule doesn't exactly leave me with time to volunteer, either. I go to school until 5:30 PM. I don't even have enough time to go to the gym, I'm forced to go late-night. |

Okay, re-reading over this topic I've come to a conclusion:
For the most part, Christmas has indeed lost its meaning. Maybe not for everyone, because my family and I still celebrate it as the birth of Jesus Christ our savior. People may have their own version of how this holiday came to be, and how they celebrate it is of their own will. There is no certain way that people of Christianity or as of any other religion for that matter, since even non-Christians participate in this event, have to celebrate it. It's just horrid to see how we've come so far as to ruining it for some people and filling heads with the thoughts of presents underneath your little Christmas trees and comparing them with that of others. Greed and money do take part in this event because of greed and money. Bottom line. Christmas has lost its truth for most who only think of presents. People have the freedom to celebrate this occasion in any fashion they see fit. Pfft, forget armagedon. We can end the world ourselves it seems. ![]() |

QUOTE(MAXpowers1023 @ Dec 26 2004, 12:26 AM) i wasnt talking about you...sorry for not being clear. i was talking about atheist/ non-christians, who try to remove god from everything...and feel they must change everything that is christian. and the comment i made about "CHRISTmas" was about people changing the intended meaning of the day...i said if you want a day for gift-giving and greed....then create a new holiday..and name it something else... read before you comment...you wont look quite inane. No, love, for the hundredth time on cB, I can read just fine. Infact, I have superb reading skills. I thought you included me in your little generalization, that's why I said don't generalized me in this comment: QUOTE I actually enjoy hearing the word comming out of your heathen mouths. i'm just saying...you all want to have freedom of this and that..but then you attack christians for our beliefs.. Like I said, I can read well, it's how you present the material that confuses the reader. You said yourself that you weren't clear so I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me names when the fault is yours. So, write well before you expect a person to read and not get the wrong idea, ne? QUOTE 1. One who is regarded as irreligious, uncivilized, OR unenlightened. i was refering to the part of the definition that says irreligious. Then perhaps you'll know to exclude the definition that isn't quite relevant to the discussion next time? |

Everybody has something to give, you are the one who are being materialistic. The real question out of all this is, are YOU satisfied when you receive nothing but love on Christmas? and i agree that the people who doesnt believe in the birth of christ shouldnt celebrate christmas. and yeah, the fact that they are celebrating something they dont believe in piss me off too. |
