What do you know about this? Apparently John Galliano a designer, chose 'normal' looking models rather than the classic thin, tall and beautiful models we are used to see strutting in the catwalk. The models included overweight, short, normal looking and old people.

Tried to find an article/pictures but couldn't find any... sorry!

I think it was a great thing to do. Not everyone is tall and anorexic thin. Why should a size 0 be defined as the only beauty? I personally think that most of the size zero models are disgusting. People who say that these girls are beautiful have obviously not been backstage at a fashion show where diet pills and anorexia are a common thing where you can see every single bone in their body. Curves are beautiful, and just because they are overweight or old doesn't mean they can't be. Modeling isn't only about being beautiful, in fact there are many beautiful girls who can't do it because it takes confidence not being tall and thin.

Sorry a bit of a rant there. But i think it's an amazing thing he is doing.

edit // I found the article:

I agree with what Gypsy Eyes is saying. I'm glad old people, normal people, etc. are being used as models, not all clothes are/should be for the anorexic 20 year olds. In my opinion, curves (not fat) are much more beautiful than bones gouging out of your skin.

Skinny models, curvey models, fat models...
as long as their symmetrical and classically pretty I have no problem with them.

But those ugly people... oooh do I hate ugly people...

Maybe it'll spread in our society to show that you don't have to be tall, thin, and perfect to be considered beautiful.

It's a wonderful idea.

I think it's a good idea as long as they actually look good in the clothes...I mean, they probably won't wear them as well as tall and skinny people, but if it looks good on them, the go for it =)

Wonderful. I think I'll start wearing his clothes now... assuming I can afford them.

I'm also a huge fan of the Dove ads that show REAL women. I think it's great that at least some companies are keeping in mind that not all of their consumers are stick thin. I'm glad that they're taking into account the reality of our bodies.

my opinion is like... 'ehh... ok then.' because high fashion is all about being outrageous and stuff right? and lots of those ppl definitely aren't 'normal'. yes it might be a statement, but it might just be to make his show more interesting. so i don't really know what to say ermm.gif

agreed.
but i generally don't like topics like this [irl also]. i mean, once people bring up the whole model thing, all you hear is "OMFG SKINNY GIRLS ARE SICK. ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT ARE LIKE A SIZE NEGATIVE-A-MILLION"
i wear a zero, and i hate to see people sit there and say its gross and disgusting. im sorry, but i cant help it.its natural, im not a stuck up twig with anorexia problems. not to say all people are like this, but i just seem to hear that alot.
nice to see him expanding his horizons, though. im happy for him. thumbsup.gif

I don't feel quite comfortable after watching the slideshow in the article.

I mean it's okay if you choose normal-looking people for the catwalk, but I think the people John Galliano chose were too extreme. They're all piled with weird makeup on their faces (white foundation and black lipstick ermm.gif), and the emphasis is on their looks and body rather than the fashion itself.

i dont like it because people are going to focus on the models and how unique they are rather than the clothes they're modeling. i think its easier for designers to only have tall, thin models because when they're making their clothes for the fashion shows, they don't have to customize each and every piece of clothing.
and there's nothing wrong with being tall and skinny. some people cant help it so please don't go calling it ugly.

now everyone is going to want to be a model and the shows will be a contest of who has the most wide range of people rather than whos got the nicest designs. yay! [/sarcasm]

What's wrong with more people wanting to model? Finally opportunities are opening up for a wider variety of people. Finally the "perfect size 0" trend is fading. This is a milestone for the fashion industry.

And it kind of is ugly when so many girls starve themselves of curves and beauty. I'll take my size 6 over a 0 any day, thank you very much. It's a bit hard to believe that girls are naturally that sickly, frail, and weak looking. There's so much more behind just a "fast metabolism".

she isn't talking about thin. she is talking about being able to see every single bone in the body. No one is naturally that skinny. Thin is fine if it fit's your body type. Emaiciated is not normal and not beautiful.

Thanks, Jackie. throb.gif

I said "STARVE THEMSELVES". I was not directing that to girls who are naturally thin, like yourself. Please read next time.
