How do you tell if your piercing is infected?

I got my cartilage pierced 2 weeks ago, and today it's gotten really red and very swollen. Maybe it's from irritation, like hitting it, but I'm not sure. How do you tell if it's infected?

Hm... spamming is not good for your health. If you do it again, you'll die the next day. biggrin.gif

Anyways --- yeah you got yourself a piercing infection. If you have a red swollen in your eat, that means you got yourself an infection. I know because it happened to my mom and my sister. I don't have my ears pierced because I don't like needles and I don't want any holes in my ears. So yeah if you have an infection --- you don't need to see a doctor. It will go away for weeks. If it doesn't go away, then that means you didn't put medicine to it.

aww i want my cartilage pierced. i got another piercing just a month ago on my left ear. my 3rd piercing.. it's all swollen, hard, painful and there's always these dry blood pieces around it. now it's better, just keep wearing ur earring and dont take it off till it's uninfected. disinfect ur earrings from time to time

My eyebrow keeps getting infected and I got it pierced in Aug.

Cartilidge piercings take awhile to heal. My manfriend has an industrial piercing

and it keeps getting infected. You have to clean it everyday and try to avoid contact with it such as the phone and sleeping on that ear.

The main thing is cleanliness, if it is red and swollen and pussing those are some signs of infection. CLEAN IT. Antibactierial soap

No puss or anything...but I can't take it out because it's only been 2 weeks, they told me not to take it out for 6. I think it may be just from irritation...I mean, I know it's supposed to hurt a while after...but yeah. The swelling did go down a little...but if it does get infected I should just get meds? I really dont wanna take it out and then have to get ir re-pierced and go through this pain in the ass, can't sleep on i crap. I went to get my hair cut today, and lemme tell ya, when the brush gets caught on it - ow.

...and I never thought of antibacterial soap...I just used alcohol.

All my piercings that I have recved I was always told never ever to use alcohol because it causes your piercing to dry and get even more krusty and could cause it not to heal right. Antibacterial soap is the way to go im telling you happy.gif
