Eep...
say it's really difficult and it could affect your GPA, leaving it to worsen and possibly reducing your chances into getting into a college of your choice.

;P
If that doesn't work, say you have difficulty breathing. :D I played the clarinet too...and I got out of it... >:[

erm.. that sounds familier.. my mom wants that of me too.. except with piano.. it does hurt them but you do have to do whats best for you... say "listen mom, i know you have been paying for my instrument and that i really stuck to this and i dont wanna be a loser and quit .. but i will also be a loser by refusing by my refuses. this is not right.. im a human being and this is just an extracuriculum activity and it wont affect my chances that much if i quit." say something smart that will convince adults

tell your mom what your big dreams really are and just say like "im very sorry and i know you worked your best to help me to join the band, but i seriously don't feel like i want to be in the band. my goal was to be in the dance team"... just say that. if your mom is very stricted...wooo dear i cant help you with that one, so sorry!

i didnt think marching band sounded like fun either, but it is, and youll get a lot more out of it than dance team

ok,so heres the story: Last year, i signed up to do band, and my mom got me an all new clarinet, that we have been paying for since then. i liked band and all last year, so i was like ok kool, i guess i'll stick with it. Well this year, its a whole other story. we have grades, the teacher is way meaner/biitchier, and I'm just not into it anymore. So at the beginning of the year i asked my mom if i could quit, and she freaked out and was like "NO!!! I'm paying for this instrument every month, and now you just want to quit???" and i have a feeling she wants me to be like her, and be in the marching band, which i REFUSE to do b/c it just doesnt sound like any fun. i want to try out for the dance team this year, and if i do marching band (blah), that will lessen my chances of getting on the dance team, which i have wanted to do longer than i have ever even thought about being in band. I love dancing, and getting on the dance team would make me sooo happy, but my mom is so negative and says stuff like, "Well, there is probably a small chance you'll get on" and all this other crap.so what can i do to explain to her that i absolutely HATE band and i want to be on the dance team?? i have explained to her about my whole dance team thing, and she just wont listen. any advice??

I guess i'm not helping buht this is worth a try. Igues its cus my mom is stricter. I take piano and dance now buht i used to take violin and clarinet as well. Three calses of dance. yes overwhelming buth whtaever peopel have worse. My mom just all of a sudden blew everything off. She even quit my enrichment program, my tennis class, my swimming lessons, my second language school, and some oether stuff. I guess she got sick of my stupid begging. Buht paretns go like this " YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH YOU HAVE ALL THESE OPPORTUNITIES! WE ENVER HAD THESE WHEN WE FIRSTCME TO AMERICA" . welps, i guess u can try bribing her that you'll do really good in school and then make a deal with ehr and stuff. I hate it when mom's say negative phrases. my mom always does that stubborn.gif GOOD LUCK.

i would just straight up bug her everyday when she wakes up about it
and also think of reasons to get out of it and make them sound all...
....
pretty-ed up.

i.e.
real reason: you don't like it
pretty-ed up reason: you don't feel it's going to affect and/or enhance your future career choice.

lol. that always works for me x]

haha nice. good way of putting it.

but yeah...just let her know you're not enjoying yourself. she shouldn't force you to do something you don't want to do.

Just tell her how you feel, tell her about the band teacher. If she doesn't even listen, then that's all i can say. Cry in front of her, that'll get her attention, lol. But yeah, it's hard to be in band, good thing i didn't sign up. haha. Anywho, if this is affecting you, then why don't you just do whatever it takes you to quit.

How did she buy you a new clarinet and still have to pay for the instrument every month? Are you guys renting it or something?

Dude, Marching band is fun. I don't have marching band at my school, but I wish I did >___< Marching band is.. facking awesome.

But anyways.. if you want to quit band, just tell her the good side of what can happen. You should've said something like "I would really like to concentrate on my grades and do something where I feel I'll be achieving my dreams" or some crap like that.

amen. i love marching band.

but i understand what you're saying because i used to play piano and my mom had a seizure when i told her i hated it. so after like a year of forced lessons, she finally let me quit. it's 4 years later.. and now whenever i feel like messing around on the piano, she glares at me and she's like, 'OH, NOW YOU WANT TO START PLAYING AGAIN, DON'T YOU?!?! I PAID FOR YOUR LESSONS FOR FIVE YEARS AND THIS IS ALL YOU CAN PLAY?! ALL THAT MONEY BLAHBLAHBLAHHH*and this is the part where i lose my attention and think about something else'

Maybe if you find a way to sell it for close to the cost she will be more willing to let you give up band because she wont be losing tons of money.

instruments are expensive.

tell her there are some freak ass people in band. trust me, i speak from experience. shifty.gif

kidding. it all depends on what kind of marching band your school has. for me, being in a competitive marching band is a lot of hard work (even though MOST people think we're just out there prancing in our little uniforms and tooting our horns. wrong.) it's time consuming and exhausting, but you get a lot out of it. you meet cool people, travel to hot places, and *HONESTLY* band makes you do better in school because you're always doing something meaning you don't have time to procrastinate with your homework. pinch.gif

but if you really wanna quit just talk to your mom about it, tell her your reasons for quitting and i'm sure she'll understand. if all else fails, cry. goodluck with that.

Well, it's kinda the same with my violin.
We bought it and stuff..
and now, I kinda want to quit, but only cause of my teacher..

So, I would just give it a try and keep going since I decided that I would keep going cause I'm on my 4th year, anyways.

but if you REALLY want to quit, then bitch about how mean your teacher is and how it's "affecting" your grade and stuff.
