DS IS OWNAGE! Can the PSP go world wide without a wireless router? nope, can the DS do that? yes, via hotspots. you do the math, can you use a stylus on a PSP and move things freely?, nope.

i currently have a DS handheld myself, got it the first day it came out =)

Hotspots are the same thing as wireless routers. So the PSP CAN use these hotspots for the same thing.

For example, the local Panera here has free WiFi wireless internet when youre in the restaraunt. Thats a hotspot, or so Im assuming, and the PSP can do the same thing there when it goes online.

those are not hotspots, i read an article about it once and it mentioned a different kind of connection rather than wireless routers for hotspots. i forgot the link tho.

that is probably incorrect. I don't think the ps1 discs can fit in the PSP. maybe there will be ported ps1 games, but I don't think it is backward compatible with the ps1.

I don't think it has dvd/cd capability either. It uses proprietary discs, so how can a DVD/CD fit?

I'm for the DS. Pictochat is really cool! So what if PSP has a bigger screen, the DS has two! The DS will have better games as well.
*

Yeah, it's way too small to fit dvd/cd's.

Not to be a pest, but that doesnt exactly explain WHAT a hotspot is.

Im still confuzzled.

Anyway, I can still play my DS at Panera, while eating yummy sandwiches(SP).

EDIT: According to wifi411.com my local Panera IS a hotspot. Maybe its not a nintendo hotspot, but it is a wireless hotspot, and can be used nonetheless.

I think the "hot spots" are for Nintendo DS users only, and they are free to use.

Thats what I was saying about Nintendo hotspots. They might be making their own for the DS, I guess for purposes like downloading games and stuff. They might be different somehow.

Wifi hotspots are just like my Panera, places where you can go to use wireless internet. Theyre all over the place it seems. And because of their nature I can still play my DS online there...when it goes online.

Sony is reducing the amount of PSPs to be manufactured. First they delay the launch, and now they're artificailly creating a shortage? Jeez...

no, I'm pretty sure the DS uses 802.11b for all it's communications, & PSP uses 802.11b too.

I would recommend PSP because it has really good graphics, you can play dvds, look at your photos on there, and play your music.

My brother has both the DS and the PSP, and he hardly ever uses his PSP.

I think that says something about the gameplay (and he knows his shit about games).

Play-yan. Movies. Music. On an SD card. Or if you're into cheaper, third party accessories:

GBA Movie Advance.

Come to think of it, these accessories are for the GBA! And that's like what, $70 now? So you could have saved $180 if all you wanted to do was play games and watch movies on the same machine.

People who buy UMD movies are wasting money. The name UMD is misleading as well. Universal, yet Proprietary. That's probably why they try not to call them UMDs on TV (if you've ever seen commercials, they say "buy it on DVD or PSP" instead of UMD).

And the DS runs linux. With a touchscreen keyboard. 'Nuff said.

PSP has a large number of good games, what?

Quod erat demonstrandum. Hopefully you understand how I see things now.

Let's take this to the PSP vs DS thread in technology.
*

Well, I'm not a fan of carrying "accessories" with me when going to places. With my 1GB card, I can store about 3 full DVDs onto it... no accessories... just a simple card.

I understand your point about the UMD being retarded... and I personally think it is. Why couldn't they just make a small DVD player kinda thing? Without the ugly box around the disk? Stupid Sony.

... I'd write more, but my dinner

PS: I don't really use my PSP for gaming, so I don't really what games PSP has. A waste? I don't care.

You don't have to carry it around. With the DS, it fits into the GBA slot. So it's not sticking out. And it's not that big or heavy. Plus, the battery life is longer! The added bonus is that it uses the much wider spread formats (Play-yan uses SD, the other one uses compact flash). These formats are cheaper than the expensive memory stick Duos.

So, if you don't use your PSP for gaming, why get it in the first place? To look cool? There are other things that do a better job of playing movies and music you know.

/me waits for mr. acid to talk more about the iriver.

Right. I'd like to see the mad cow mode in that game _smile.gif

But, at least for now, will you admit that the DS has better games and can do what the PSP can do (and more)?

The Nintendo DS survives a trip to the top of Mount Everest. On the way up, a Dell PC, a polytechnic screen, and three mp3 players died. Now that's durable.
