Well, I'm not sure if this is in the correct spot, but here it goes...
Anyone know to figure out who someone is based on thier i.p. address? Is it possible... I was just curious because I was looking at my site meter info and some person has been visiting my page like 3 times a day. Now that's fine and dandy but I find it sort of strange that their entry and exit page is my xanga. I just wanted to know who it was and if I can figure out woh it is... like if I know them or it's some stalker? I was just curious. |

Do you actually think that the address of their computer can be used to find out who they are? It isn't a physical address like your home address, it changes all the time, but it can be used to be traced to a general location, nothing specific though.

A civilian can't used a I.P. address. You can find out what ISP provider that person is but that all you can do legally. Law enforcement can used certain techicals that can trace I.P. address and then calling the ISP provider to find out about that person. The I.P address do change but not the first couple of numbers telling it who the provider is. That how some websites can detect your connection and say stuff like "You are using AOL"

Well, there is a little program I know of, but it will only get personal information for a website.
I.E. www.somthing.net - tells me the site owner's info and who his/her server is, what not. The program is called Magic NetTrace. Google it. It says it's actually not meant for finding personal info. |
