so? that's all they knew at the point. to have written the bible, they must have been pretty darn intelligent for their time.

my point is, you can't take everything the bible says as true.

men do not have one less rib, although there are some people who will argue it with a science teacher because it's in the bible.

and that's not all they knew at that point...

most the common folk knew the earth was round, at least sailors.

if it wasn't round, why could you see the earth was round when you sailed?

why could you see land from the crow's nest you can't see from the deck? if the earth were flat, that wouldn't happen.

and there was sufficient evidence the earth was not the center of the universe. there were moons around saturn, and anyone with knowledge of where saturn was and a small telescope can see that.

um... you're not supposed to take everything in the bible literally, that wasn't menat to be done...

many things in the bible are symbolic and teach matters in an obscure way,.. it's meant to be interpretted... thats what pastors are for...

are you a christian?? obviously not... b/c if you are one, you should have known...

if you're not one... you shouldn't have judged...

when they made the bible they didn't know saturn existed.
they didn't know the earth was flat. people didn't sail. they didn't have boats.
you act like this happened in the 1400s..

they did sail.

and i judge because i know. i went to a christian private school before, and i'm not refering to christians in general, just the literalists.

they did know saturn existed. at least the greeks did. way before the bible.
people could have easily found saturn unless they were prevented from doing so.

Just to add to the topic... this is directed to Acid. Please don't think that I in any way want to sound arrogant, its just the way this will come out. Why do you think Christians celebrate easter? No, not because they want to decorate eggs and hide them. (IMO, that's a dumb thing to do... but hey, to each his own). Back on topic, Christians, at least most of them do, celebrate Easter to commemorate the fact that Jesus died on the cross *and* ressurected after three days. Once again, I won't quote the bible unless asked... so....

And also, if the topic of Jesus "going to heaven after three days on the cross" comes up, lemme clarify something. I asked a professor here in my school and he said, even showed me some proof of it, that Jesus spent around 40 on earth after he ressurected and *then* he assended to heaven.

Will work on it more upon request but I have to go pore over five dead, dissected cats for a lab exam. tongue.gif

Let me start by pointing out that I'm not intending to bash any other religions.

That said, yes, going to heaven could be interpreted as dying, but only if you see it from the catholic (and other religions) view. They believe that when you die, you go to either heaven, hell or purgatory. Now, if you see if from my denomination's POV (Sevent Day Adventist), Jesus died, like any other living thing, but then he resurected and was pretty much alive, like any other living thing, (duh, hehe, sorry), and after spending sometime on earth, *alive*, he went back to heaven, still *alive*. So it depends on what POV you see it from.

To you catholics out there, please explain something to me if you don't mind. Why do you carry around (or have on your churches) a cross with Jesus crucified on it? He ressurected... he's alive... why still depict him as dead? huh.gif Its just idle curiousity...

i would like to quote from Serendipity of the movie Dogma.

Serendipity: When are you people going to learn? It's not about who's right or wrong. No denomination's nailed it yet, and they never will because they're all too self-righteous to realize that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith. Your hearts are in the right place, but your brains need to wake up.

i think its really meaningful.

WATCH DOGMA IF YOU HAVENT.
p.s: if you want to know, Serendipity is the muse.

some things i'd like to point out..

1. people can ressurect others. you can't just say "jimbob ressurected" and imply that he was ressurected. you can't just ressurect. that's not how the verb works.

2. it's spelled a - s - c - e - n - d. not assend. not accend.

you may now continue.

but jimbob did resurect!!!!! i have it here in my book.. it's holey. i mean, really. it's got a buncha holes in it.

haha. well, sorry about the misspellings, i can't help it. i can't spell my own name ( yes, i put two S's instead of one, silly me.)

i shall acsend to heaven and they will say oh you assended how wonderful now just wait for jimbob to resurect and he can accent to heaven and we'll all bask in the glow of our chosen higher being.

and maybe jimbob will assend. (- you forgot about that one)

= )

Judaism.

"Test of time" coupled with events such as the Inquisition and the Holocaust.

Enough said.

im not sure what you are asking, but i see what you are saying.

Jesus ascended into heaven, directly, and the leaders of other religions died here on earth.

Thats becuase Jesus isnt man he is God. Who knows those leaders could have gone to heaven, but they cant be compared to Jesus' death/resurrection

The most important diffence is, it's founder lives. Buddha, mohammed, and all the various cult leaders are all dead. Burried in the ground. Christians search for their founder and find an empty tomb of a living king.

An empty tomb makes you think that Jesus is just chillaxing somewhere? Of course Muhammad would be dead; he never claimed to be God/an Angel or some other divine thing. He was merely a prophet. As was Jesus*.
