after this years election, many kids at my school (and many users of these forums) have said "THAT'S IT, I'M MOVING TO CANADA!" Why? Is your relocation going to some how affect the other 270 million people who live in the US? I'm going to quote the APB
QUOTE(Angry Patriotic B**t**d (edited)) A few thoughts on the election... An observation that I touched on breifly above but have never understood, why do Liberals always bluff like they are going to move to Canada when they don't get their way? What the fsck is that? I mean, first off, no, no you aren't going to move to Canada. You are going to stay here in the U.S., uncomfortably close to me and continue to whine indefinitely. Because that is what you would rather do. You would rather be miserable here than be happy in Canada (if such a thing is possible). And why Canada? If I decided that I were through with the U.S., I think I would be able to find a slightly more attractive new home than Canada. Bermuda, Cyprus, the Virgin Islands... It doesn't take a genius to look at a globe and come up with better options than Canada--a cold, empty place denizened by American impostors with bad hair, acid washed jeans and slightly strange accents. Honestly, how many of the people who say they will move to Canada will actually move? Frankly, I could care less if they moved. America can do without them. |

theyre not actually going to move to canada. but if you must move out of the country because bush is definitely that bad (yes, sarcasm) canada would be one of the better places to move, because theyre very colse with the us geographically and politically and they tend to be pretty peaceable and not start their own wars or anything, and pacifists like that

hmm yeah i've heard of people saying that and some may move, some may not. whatever. but what's wrong with canada? its unnecessary to put down canada in the process of debating this...canada does have its problems but so does the states.

Canada is the blow hard sister nation of the US that serves as a home to those dissatisfied with or not good enough to live in the US and of all our borders canada has the better drinking water. Canada may be stable, but it has no back bone. It is as a serpent bending to the will of others. Right now they are bent to the crown which is good for the moment seeing as our differences with England have been resolved and we are now allies. Between canada and mexico, canada would be the better choice in the long term, eh?

I agree. Even though people are saying they're going to move to Canada as a joke, it doesn't mean Canada shouldn't be taken seriously. What you all have in your minds is a poor stereotype of what Canada is, which is an absolute no when it comes to debating (after all, this IS the Debate section). Canada has many riches. If Canada was swiped off this very planet, nothing much would happen, I agree. But to a certain degree yes, things would change. We needn't go to the extent of putting certain groups of people down without adequate reasons. All I've been hearing so far is "Canada has moose". "Canada is cold". "Canada is useless." Not that I don't agree with some of those statements, but for the first two, what does it have to do with this topic? And for the third statement, what kind of proof do you have? Because Canada, albeit quite small and inferior in your minds, does in fact have some rich resources in which the whole world can benefit from. If you want to make a stereotypical joke about Canadians, say it in the Humour section. This is the Debate section, where logic and reason prevail. When Americans say they want to move to Canada, it could mean they just want to move in general. They may use Canada as a country that's described as quite small and inferior, to show their discontent. They hate America and Bush's tactics so much they would stoop to the level of Canada. This is not a matter of what people want to do to change America and its 270 million people, this is an attempt for those people to live a more peaceful life. And believe me, Canada will give you that peace America will never have. |

Hey there peeps,
I don't think anyone really mean to demean others by asking "why Cananda?" If you really look at it, those people who prefers Canada are demeaning their own country, which is just dandy since there's freedom of speech here after all. But asking "why Canada?" is basically trying digest how saying that makes them any better off because 1) they don't actually move, they just say it, 2) they make the country look bad by saying it without valid explanation... etc. Well, outbursts like "Bush is a loser I'm off to Canada" aren't valid in my book, but if you think otherwise, that's fine too. So really, no one is saying that Canada is inferior, far from it, but people are just wondering how that phrase, "i'm moving to Canada", got started and how does benefit a person if they don't really mean to do it. |

You do realize that China has a mandatory draft right?
If I had to be drafted, I'd rather be fighting for the Americans than the Chinese "attack with pitchforks and maybe knives" Red Army. |

Um. When America reinstates the draft, I'd rather live in China. I see no advantage for America to provoke China. So which country is more likely to draft me when the time comes that America reinstates a draft during a war, or China, that may have a standing draft already, but already has a standing army and is not in any war?
BTW, don't burst my bubble. And I hope you're using "pitchforks and maybe knives" as a metaphor to their crappy technology. If you're using it literally, you sure are weird. |

You'd have to serve anyway, and I'm pretty sure the peacetime conditions aren't great.
In America, 9/10 soldiers are not in combat positions. If you are drafted, chances are you will not be on the frontlines, instead performing support duties for well-trained Marine and Ranger units. |

You are mildly making me feel better about a potential draft. Can you support your statistic? I believe that the Chinese gov't isn't looking at attacking/provoking anyone right now or in short term future. All I see is a country trying to catch up from a 30 year late start. With their 2008 and 2012 Olympics and World Trade Convention, I really doubt they would want any status other than peacetime. |
